UFO Hovers Over Beijing

Last Saturday, an unusually bright luminary lit up the night sky over Beijing. While the Ephemeris suggests it must be Jupiter, the object's strange behavior raises some questions. Here's an eyewitness's account.

Saturday evening after 10 pm, we accompanied a friend to our block's gate in the Dongcheng district. On our way, we noticed an extremely bright, yellowish-white twinkling object high in the southeastern sky. Moving at a slow pace, it by far over-radiated the few stars visible over Beijing. Up to today, its behavior gives us mysteries. According to the tables of the Ephemeris, it's supposed to be Jupiter, however, this thing behaved extremely odd.

After having seen our friend off, I fetched my small Canon G7 camera, put it on a tripod and took a few shots in just a minute's time. Zooming in with a factor of 24, the electronic image stabilizer helped to avoid blurred pictures. What was so astonishing to me was the fact that the object would change its color and size about every minute - despite unchanged camera settings and position.

Finally I took my digital Canon EOS, mounted an optical 300mm zoom lens and returned to the spot. This picture series covers short and long-term exposure, firstly to get a sharper outline and secondly to capture the trajectory of the object. To my astonishment, these photos, which were made with the self timer, no longer showed changing colors; furthermore, I recognized three small bright companions next to the big luminary. One to the right, two to the left.

These three formed a perfectly straight line with the large object; however, they could neither be seen with the naked eye nor through the mirror-reflex finder. Three coincidental passersby confirmed my findings. They examined both my photos and the object in the sky. Furthermore, the three smaller lights are, contrary to their large neighbor, not circular, but triangular in shape. Common to all four objects is a violet color fringe on the left and a green one on the right, which may have been caused by the lens.

Leaving aside the optical errors of a lens, a few questions remain unanswered: What are the three "companions" of the large object? Why did they emerge in the photo, while they were neither to be seen with the naked eye nor through the mirror-reflex finder? Why, as several long-term exposures show, did all ten of the lights that were visible around the large object, move at the same speed and in the same direction? i.e., ascending toward the south, without the camera being budged at all? Yet, the question of all questions remains: What is this large, radiating thing that was moving slowly across the skies while changing its color and size every minute…a star, a UFO, or a planet?

Last night I captured the big luminary on my camera again, through the open window of my balcony. In addition to the notorious change in color and size that we witnessed last Saturday, the large, bright object now appeared with the same three companions again, in the same straight line, yet in reverse order. Jackson, New Jersey - 8/27/2009 - Witness was with his family waiting in line to ride one of the coasters when people all around them started looking up into the sky. What was described as a perfect circular object with a black edge was moving slowly in and out of the clouds. The object moved on a steady plane near the bottom edge of the heavy cloud cover. The black edge of the circle always remained visible even as the object continued to go in an out of the clouds. The object passed over the group estimated to number 100 people. Several of them yelled "UFO!". The object moved slowly against the wind for a half hour or more.

San Diego, California - 8/24/2009 - Witness reported seeing a huge, completely black, rectangular object come from over the nearby hills. The object was approximately 200-300 feet off the ground and flew directly over the witness' house. He called his fiance out to verify what he was witnessing. As the object flew over the house, the witness noticed the object had rings on the bottom that appeared red in color. The witness further claimed that the object "looked like a spaceship, dull gray in color, similar to a warship". The object continued traveling over the house, then in a bright flash of light, disappeared from sight.

August 23, 2009 - According to the Shanghai news website, a UFO hovered over Chongquing for half an hour. Chongqing is the only municipality directly under the central government in western China. It is located on the upper reaches of the Yangtze River, and is southwest China's biggest industrial and commercial center, communication hub, and inland port. At about 10:00 p.m. on the evening of August 23, a UFO (actual picture at right) appeared in the sky above Beibel Binjiang Road in Chongqing. The UFO was "v" shaped, and its color changed in the order of red, blue, green, yellow and white, in short intervals. Hundreds of people watched, but no one heard any sound produced by engines or propulsion equipment. During the half hour that the UFO appeared, a civil aircraft passed by. Witnesses compared the civil craft to the UFO and discovered that the UFO was obviously flying at a higher altitude. After hovering for about a half hour, the periphery of the UFO began to twinkle, then it disappeared into the night sky.

Great Britain declassifies top secret Irish UFO files

The British government recently declassified secret files from its Ministry of Defense, which have revealed a top-secret investigation into two sightings of UFO's in Ireland in 1993, and 1996. The UFO reports are part of a three-year project to release Britain's classified UFO files. The first sighting took place on March 31, 1993 when two objects were seen streaking across the Irish sky. Frantic callers swamped local law enforcement agencies with panicked calls as brightly-lit objects shot across the country. The Irish government is reported to have scrambled jets to monitor the objects but they obviously could not keep up with the UFO's that were flying at a speed of approximately 3,000 mph. The UFO file says they believe that people were witnessing the re-entry of a Russian launch vehicle after it had catapulted a Cosmos 2238 satellite into space.

In the second investigation, there were four separate reports of a UFO over County Down in January, 1996. However, the official investigation said there was no UFO and that the strange light came from lasers on top of a local hotel. The files are part of a huge archive from the "Flying Saucer Working Party" which was commissioned in 1952 by Prime-Minister Winston Churchill. Churchill acted after a UFO scare in America in July, 1952 saw the U.S. Air Force scramble jet inteceptors over Washington, D.C. The scare prompted Churchill to send a memo to the Air Ministry stating: "What does all this stuff about flying saucers amount to? What can it mean? What is the truth? Let me have a report at your convenience". One of the key figures in the Flying Saucer Working Party was then Chief of Defense, Lord Louis Mountbatten. Mountbatten, who would be killed by the IRA in County Sligo in 1979, was one of a small group of influential military officials who believed UFO's really did come from outer space.

The REAL Evolution Debate: Evolution through the lens of Science and Spirit

You’ve seen the papers. You’ve watched the TV reports. You know how the debate on evolution is always framed. Darwin vs. God. Science vs. religion. Evolution vs. creationism. Reason and rationality vs. belief and faith. That’s the evolution debate we hear about in the mass media these days, the one that is causing consternation everywhere from Kansas school boards to Pennsylvania courthouses.

But even as the culture wars rage and endless straw men are sent to their graves, we at WIE would like to suggest a different approach. Because what is portrayed about evolution in today’s media more often than not implies a false choice, an artificial polarization between two extremes. In fact, there is another evolution debate going on behind the scenes, one that is broader, deeper, subtler, and much more profound. And it’s not just a debate between science and spirituality. It’s also about what kind of science and what kind of spirituality we are talking about.

So with that thought in mind, the editors of What Is Enlightenment? set out this past summer to uncover the real evolution debate—to chart those exciting evolutionary theories in both science and spirituality that are causing us to redefine the nature of the evolutionary process and to rethink our conclusions about where we come from, who we are, and where we might be going. Yes, there are still those who say it’s all a cosmic accident and that’s the end of it, and those who say it’s all perfectly planned by God and that’s the end of it. But somewhere in between, there are exciting new ideas that are destined to shake the foundations of the way we understand life in the twenty-first century.

So instead of two categories we have twelve, instead of black and white, we have a whole spectrum of colors. Together they paint a much more interesting, more challenging, and most importantly, more accurate picture of how evolution is being perceived in the spiritual, philosophical, and scientific circles that are helping define the leading edge of contemporary culture. And they show one fact unequivocally: At the beginning of 2007, how we understand the nature of evolution is itself evolving in ever-surprising ways. As it does, it continues to radically alter the way we perceive our world, and the world to come

Evolution through the Lens of Science and Spirit

Between the Neo-Darwinists on one side and the Intelligent Designers on the other are at least ten more "schools" of evolutionary thought. Here, we've spread them out along a spectrum from science to spirit, with scientific materialism on the far left and religious determinism on the far right. Generally speaking, the closer a group of scientific thinkers appear to the center of the chart, for example, the closer its view of evolution comes to integrating the dimension of spirit, and vice-versa—an integration that manifests most fully in the three groups in the middle.

The Neo-Darwinists Evolution and biological complexity are the products of random mutation and natural selection at the level of genes

The Progressive Darwinists Genetic mechanisms are far more complex than previously thought; moreover, we now know there are several nongenetic systems of heredity that also influence the evolutionary process.

The Collectivists Evolution is driven not only by competition between genes but also by symbiogenesis, cooperation, and altruism between organisms.

The Complexity Theorists Evolution occurs not simply through natural selection or random “tinkering” but through the capacity of dynamic complex systems to spontaneously produce higher forms of order.

The Directionalists The process of evolution is progressing toward broader and deeper cooperation and complexity—evidence, if not exactly proof, that it may even be shaped by some form of purpose or design.

The Transhamanists Human beings must take control of their continued evolution—primarily through bioengineering, cybernetics, nanorobotics, and other technological means.

The Intelligent Designers Certain features of the universe and earth’s biological complexity are best explained by an intelligent agent or cosmic designer, not an undirected process such as natural selection.

The Theistic Evolutionists The evolutionary processes of natural selection and random mutation are not contradictory with faith in a God who gives order to all existence. In fact, science and religion deal with different aspects of reality that complement each other.

The Esoteric Evolutionists Evolution is both a physical and a metaphysical process and it proceeds according to hidden esoteric blueprints that are working themselves out in consciousness and matter.

The Process Philosophers God is not a static creator outside time and space but the dynamic, creative dimension of the evolutionary process in time and space.

The Conscious Evolutionists We live in an unfinished cosmos, and its further development depends on us and our willingness to actively participate in the evolution of consciousness.

The Integralists Evolution is a holistic process that includes both objective and subjective dimensions of reality as it moves toward greater exterior complexity of form and greater interior depth of consciousness.

The Great Dictator

Charlie Chaplin's first talkie, The Great Dictator (1940), is loved and loathed in equal measures, but is an outstanding film in many respects. Although some would say Chaplin, after staying silent for so long, now talked too much, you can't argue that he used sound to great effect and made the transition rather better than many of his contempories.

The film includes many classic scenes of comedy - especially the interplay between Hynkel and Napaloni - but it also has serious undertones. You must remember that this film was made when Adolf Hitler was in power and World War II raged across Europe. It was a brave film to make at the time, though upon learning later of the horror of the concentration camps, Chaplin confessed that he wouldn't have made the film with this knowledge (the same thing Hergé said about his Quick and Flupke/Hitler cartoons).

The speech that ends the film is quite famous and even controversial - for some it is overly sentimental, for others it is a real message of peace from a man that the whole world would listen to. Chaplin was asked to repeat the speech on national radio. It may seem a bit dated now in it's style, but it's still sadly apt for the world today.

The plot before hand concerns an innocent Jewish barber (Chaplin) who ends up being mistaken for the Ptomanian dictator Adenoid Hynkel (also Chaplin). He soon finds himself dressed in the fuhrer's outfit, on a platform facing 'his' army, and expected to make a rousing speech to spur on the evil genocide and invasions.

"I'm sorry, but I don't want to be an emperor. That's not my business. I don't want to rule or conquer anyone. I should like to help everyone if possible - Jew, Gentile - black man - white.

We all want to help one another. Human beings are like that. We want to live by each other's happiness - not by each other's misery. We don't want to hate and despise one another. In this world there's room for everyone and the good earth is rich and can provide for everyone.

The way of life can be free and beautiful, but we have lost the way. Greed has poisoned men's souls - has barricaded the world with hate - has goose-stepped us into misery and bloodshed. We have developed speed, but we have shut ourselves in. Machinery that gives abundance has left us in want. Our knowledge has made us cynical; our cleverness, hard and unkind. We think too much and feel too little. More than machinery we need humanity. More than cleverness, we need kindness and gentleness. Without these qualities, life will be violent and all will be lost.

The aeroplane and the radio have brought us closer together. The very nature of these inventions cries out for the goodness in man - cries for universal brotherhood - for the unity of us all. Even now my voice is reaching millions throughout the world - millions of despairing men, women, and little children - victims of a system that makes men torture and imprison innocent people. To those who can hear me, I say: 'Do not despair.' The misery that is now upon us is but the passing of greed - the bitterness of men who fear the way of human progress. The hate of men will pass, and dictators die, and the power they took from the people will return to the people. And so long as men die, liberty will never perish.

Soldiers! Don't give yourselves to brutes - men who despise you and enslave you - who regiment your lives - tell you what to do - what to think and what to feel! Who drill you - diet you - treat you like cattle, use you as cannon fodder. Don't give yourselves to these unnatural men - machine men with machine minds and machine hearts! You are not machines! You are not cattle! You are men! You have the love of humanity in your hearts. You don't hate, only the unloved hate - the unloved and the unnatural!

Soldiers! Don't fight for slavery! Fight for liberty! In the seventeenth chapter of St Luke, it is written the kingdom of God is within man not one man nor a group of men, but in all men! In you! You, the people, have the power - the power to create machines. The power to create happiness! You, the people, have the power to make this life free and beautiful - to make this life a wonderful adventure. Then in the name of democracy - let us use that power - let us all unite. Let us fight for a new world - a decent world that will give men a chance to work - that will give youth a future and old age a security.

By the promise of these things, brutes have risen to power. But they lie! They do not fulfil that promise. They never will! Dictators free themselves but they enslave the people. Now let us fight to fulfil that promise! Let us fight to free the world - to do away with national barriers - to do away with greed, with hate and intolerance. Let us fight for a world of reason - a world where science and progress will lead to all men's happiness. Soldiers, in the name of democracy, let us unite!

Can you hear me? Wherever you are, look up. The clouds are lifting! The sun is breaking through! We are coming out of the darkness into the light. We are coming into a new world - a kindlier world, where men will rise above their hate, their greed and their brutality. "The last thing I saw with complete clarity was a glint of light in the flood of acid that engulfed my face. I recall reeling back, gasping for air with my nose, mouth, and eyes full of the stuff, coughing and spluttering. It tore off my conjunctivas, the thin film covering the corneas, in an instant and then began rapidly to eat its way into both eyes. I no longer had even a split second of clear sight; there was only a jagged, broken, dirty-glass effect, as though at night a passing truck had splashed muddy water across my windscreen and the wipers couldn’t clear the mess. Unaware that I had also swallowed a mouthful of the solution and that my vocal cords were being eaten, and with the evil cascade still coming at me, I spun around, beginning to notice a fast-thickening fog passing over my eyes. At this point my consciousness exploded in a sense of catastrophe. There was no thought in that instant, just fragments, faces of people dear to me, and a sickening feeling of this being the end. Then the fog closed in.

The accident that changed Zoltan Torey’s life forever took place in a factory in Sydney, Australia, on a wind-whipped winter night in 1951. While he was hauling a forty-four-gallon drum of battery acid along a track overhead, the plug suddenly failed and came loose, showering his face with corrosive fire. Vision splintering, unable to speak above a whisper, he slowly felt his way along the floor. The seconds passed by in surreal procession. Tick. Down the stairs. No time for panic or pain. Tick. The foreman found him and helped him to the locker room, where they tried to wash his eyes out under the shower, clothes and all. It was useless. Tick.

Complicated. They were driving in a car. Tick. At the hospital. Everything was falling inward, shouts and silences, snippets of questions he couldn’t answer. “What did you say the acid was?” Tick. Do something, he thought, collapsing toward unconsciousness. He was only twenty-one years old.

Laying cramped and feverish in his hospital bed, slowly deteriorating toward death, Zoltan Torey pondered his predicament. This Hungarian émigré, who had escaped the darkening clouds of the Cold War little more than a year earlier, would never see again—at least not in the old way. His doctors explained that instead of shutting down with the loss of sight, the visual cortex often goes haywire, conjuring up vivid hallucinations that can disorient and overwhelm the newly blind. For this reason, they warned, it was imperative that he leave all visual imagery behind and rebuild his mental representation of reality using hearing and touch. But Torey balked at this advice. With no one to guide him, no plans or maps to follow, he actually went in the exact opposite direction. He would train himself, he decided, to simply picture the world around him through his now hyperactive visual imagination. It was an act of shocking originality and creative courage, and with it, his extraordinary journey beyond the limits of blindness began.

“From the moment his bandages come off,” writes neurologist Dr. Oliver Sacks in his foreword to Torey’s autobiography Out of Darkness, Torey “sets himself, with extraordinary tenacity, to taming his now heightened imagery, shaping it into a supple, reliable tool for living and thinking. In doing so he not only compensates himself for the loss of his sight, but develops what is almost a new sense, a new faculty of mind.” That new sense—in essence, the ability to see without seeing—would enable him to live a life unlike any blind person had ever lived before, going sightseeing, enjoying tennis on television, composing elaborate prose on a typewriter, even climbing up on his rooftop by himself, to his neighbors’ amazement and alarm, and replacing all the gutters. It carried him through honors degrees in psychology and philosophy, brought him success as a professional psychologist, and ultimately made it possible for him to tackle one of the most intractable problems known to science and philosophy alike—the riddle of the nature and origins of consciousness.

In fact, Torey would eventually embark on a painstaking twenty-five-year quest to decipher the workings of the conscious mind, an all-consuming mission that finally bore fruit with his publication of The Crucible of Consciousness (1999). Boldly attempting to demystify the physical process by which the human brain gives rise to self-reflective thought, his magnum opus was praised by Nobel laureates and favorably compared to the break throughs of both Darwin and Einstein. Yet interestingly, this major work of materialist science was inspired by a seemingly nonmaterial event—a vision of literally cosmic proportions that came to him late one night during his first few weeks in that Sydney hospital bed. Laying all his doubts and questions on the table, he began to reflect on his situation in light of a context far beyond his own small life, catalyzing a profound state of contemplation in which the very structures of the evolving universe began to open before him. It was a revelation that made visible what Torey calls the “unmistakable directionality” behind the evolutionary process, and it galvanized his passion to further that process through better understanding human consciousness, which he saw as its leading edge. As he describes in his autobiography, it was the power of this experience that pulled him back from the brink of death.

Torey is a hard-nosed scientist, and he refuses to interpret this life-changing event in religious terms. Nevertheless, it has many of the characteristics of a spiritual awakening, not least because it blessed him with an unshakable energy and confidence that seem to have stayed with him ever since. Whatever we call it, it was the source of his drive and determination to fathom, through the unique window of his inner vision, the active role each of us has to play in the creative unfolding of the cosmos. “Fate is one thing,” writes this unusual blind man who has seen so deeply into the mysteries of life and evolution. “What we make of it is another.” [read more]

Web Bot Project

Maybe some of you have heard of The Web Bot Project, but for those of you who have not, it's quite intriguing.

The Web Bot Project, developed in the late 1990's, was created to assist in making stock market predictions. The technology uses a system of spiders to crawl the Internet and search for keywords, much like a search engine does. When a keyword is located, the bot program takes a snapshot of the text preceding and following the keyword. This snapshot of text is sent to a central location where it is then filtered to define meaning.

Cliff High and George Ure, two self-described "time monks," shared dire predictions based on their web bot technology. Their method captures changes in language patterns within Internet discussions. This aggregated data is then processed with software to determine various keywords, which they interpret in a predictive fashion.

The two recommended developing self-sufficiency and the ability to live off the grid. The Web Bot Project, developed in the late 1990's, was created to assist in making stock market predictions. The projects concept is aimed at tapping into the collective unconscious of the universe and it's inhabitants. As well, there is an interesting time concept involved and an unusual concept of a "tipping point" regarding the past, current, and future times. In 2001, the bot operators began to notice that stock market predictions were not the only matters being accurately predicted by the program and they began to take notice of the coincidence with occurrences and explored it further.

One of the first accurate predictions from the bot program took place in June of 2001. At that time, the program predicted that a life altering event would take place within the next 60-90 days. An occurrence of such proportion that it's effects would be felt worldwide. The program based it's prediction on its filtered web chatter content which, ultimately represents the collective unconscious of society. Regrettably, the program's prediction proved accurate and the Twin Towers fell on 9/11/2001.

This is where it starts to become interesting. The bot program also predicts a worldwide calamity taking place in the year 2012.

Cliff High, the Chief Time Monk of the Web Bot Project talked about the financial collapse and what is to come over the next year.

Summary of Final Web Bot prediction report 2009 into 2010 - dumping of the US dollar?

He said there will be a 10000 fold increase in UFO sightings this summer.

Currently governments are proping us economies but this will fail - evidence of this will be seen in May 09. Also, when the dollar collapses other countries will not accept the U.S. dollar anymore and will not want U.S. military bases in their country. Global trading in US dollar as a common currency will stop and the US economy will collapse. The U.S. will then have a problem getting the troops home due to the dollar being worthless and not accepted.

(If you want to understand this there are theories of how dumping of the US dollar can cause global havoc).

Also the PTB (Powers that Be) are having the military test on troops "Ormes" which would be for them to stop any radiation problems from the sun and magnet problems we will be having. This is a very dangerous mixture of metals that can harm people and has to be done exactly to that own person's body. It is very expensive - BUT the PTB are having troops tested with it right now - to save themselves in the future!!! It is all about the "elite" being saved not the public from radiation that will increase as our magnetosphere collapses more.

Also the magnetosphere is being affected along with the sun and the rest of the solarsystem from the milky way magnetics, which we will be fully into on Dec. 21 2012. (Note NASA THEMIS showed and proved we were aware of the 2012 megnetosphere issue since 1998 (so when we see the magnetosphere folding - THAT IS NOT NORMAL)

But problem for U.S. as the military bases are kicked out of countries due to no country accepting the U.S. dollar. He did not completely elaborate on how the U.S. will fare, only mentioned 5 war fronts.

That will be the problems with any shipments or purchases from other countries - no country will accept the dollar. So, no medicines will be available come winter.

Making a Killing: The Untold Story of Psychotropic Drugging

Here we go again with the abuse and suffering at the hands of the psychiatric drugging.

Some of this startled me. Especially the incident with the Aliah, who was given a computer test at school, which determined she was suicidal. With this information, they contacted CPS, and Aliah was taken away from the parents. You will have to watch it just for this story to understand what our wonderful country is allowing to happen.

I applaud the producer of this film because he made it so abundantly clear of the lies that are withheld from the ignorant.

From 1986 to 1990, I worked as an Executive Assistant for LifeNet Transplant Services, which was located in Virginia and now goes by the name LifeNet Health.[LifeNetHealth.org] LifeNet was trying to obtain the title of the World's Largest Free Standing - Not for Profit Organ and Tissue Procurement Organization.

Some of you may have heard about LifeNet. We were the center of a huge story regarding passing on HIV to people through tissue transplants. [read more]

At that time, tissue banking was not regulated by the government. Under the guise to "a concern to public health", we requested that David Kessler allow us to produce standards in the industry to help regulate tissue banking. We invited him to our Virginia office and wined and dined him and his staff as if they were Kings.

This is when I realized that all we had to do was butter his hand and we could get him to approve our recommendations. We set up a "Standards of Procedures for the Procurement of Organs and Tissues for Transplantation". LifeNet systematically set regulations that spotlighted itself, and dimmed the lights on other agencies, where were eventually shut down. I would sit around the conference table taking minutes while they would laugh at how stupid David Kessler was, and how easy it was to get the FDA to do anything, as long as they were paid.

It became clear early that the Food and Drug Administration had no idea what to do and left the initial response to the crises up to LifeNet. Anderson was left virtually on his own to deal with the recipients, the FDA and the media.[source]

I guess the point I'm trying to make is that the FDA has absolutely no clue as to what is going on with our food and/or drugs. The FDA works for the Drug companies and is not concerned with pubic health.

This is a great video. It removes all the complicities and pares it down to the basic principals. Even someone from the US Congress would probably understand it...and is probably the best educational material about the world's banking system that should be taught in all our schools. I received an email from a blog reader who was thanking me for providing this information, and that his 10 year old son was just fascinated by Money as Debt and wanted to watch it again with him because there were a few things he didn't quite understand, but wanted to.

Rarely if ever in history has a time been more ripe for fresh thinking about a fundamental issues.

Paul's movies definitely open our eyes to the fraud and, at least, help point the way to the possibility of trying alternatives. I admire Paul for leading the change.

Over a thousand years, towns and villages have developed a unique system to make springs and water part of their homes. From inside their houses, the stream pours into Japan’s largest fresh water lake, near the ancient capital of Kyoto.

This is a habitat so precious, the Japanese have a special word for it, satoyama, villages where mountains give way to plains. They are exceptional environments essential to both the people who maintain them and to the wildlife that now share them.

Satoyama: Japan's Secret Watergarden is a 52-minute film which documents one season of human and nature interacting in a village near reed marshes supplied by Lake Biwa, Shiga Prefecture. (Lake Biwa is Japan's largest freshwater lake and one of the world's oldest lakes.)

Much of the documentary focuses on the life of a single villager, Sangoro Tanaka, an old man who fishes the reed marshes using a traditional net trap fishing method, and part of it follows the lives of a few of the animals that share the waterways as their home. The houses in the featured village are all designed so that fresh spring water from the village's water system is piped directly into each house, a unique system called "kabata" that ties the health of the village directly to the well-being of the water. "Satoyama" is the word for a unique ecosystem wherein man and nature live in balance. ("Kabata" is just one part of satoyama.) Even something as simple as washing dishes becomes part of this balanced system: Fish that swim freely between the village waterway and each home's stone sink consume the leftover bits of food from the dishes. In this way, the waters stay free of unsafe bacteria.

Each home has a built in pool or water tank that lies partly inside, partly outside its’ walls… A continuous stream of spring water is piped right into a basin, so freshwater is always available. People rinse out pots in the tank and clean their freshly picked vegetables. If they simply pour the food scraps back in the water, they risk polluting the whole village supply. However, carp can scour out even the greasy or burnt pans. They do the washing up in Satoyama villages. This traditional arrangement is called the riverside method. It’s used all over Japan. Cleaned up by the carp, the tank water eventually rejoins the channel.

Imagine a realm where the season’s rhythms rule, where centuries of agriculture and fishing have reshaped the land, yet where people and nature remain in harmony. Sangoro Tanaka lives in just such a paradise. At 83, he’s the guardian of one of Japan’s secret watergardens.

Many of the images of nature suggest a Zen-like simplicity. The camera lingers on bright purple, red, and green vegetables free-floating in a sink filled with the fresh spring water. As the water continually pours in from the pipe above the sink, the vegetables bump and float in an ever-changing kaleidoscope.

Later, a time lapsed sequence captures the cutting and bundling of a field of tall, dry grasses. The cone of stacked bundles all leaning into one another, although manmade, maintains its sense of simple nature.

Bayer Sells AIDS-Infected Drug Banned in U.S. in Europe, Asia.

I've been meaning to do a write up on this for some time. I'm glad I finally got to it. I feel it's very important to understand what American businesses are doing at the expense to it's consumers. Our world is the way it is today, because WE the American people are so ignorant and blinded by greed.

Cutter Biological, unit of Bayer AG, apparently sold millions of dollars of blood-clotting medicine for hemophiliacs that carried high risk of transmitting AIDS to Asia and Latin America in mid-1980's, while selling new, safer product in West.

Cutter Biological introduced its safer medicine in Feb 1984 as evidence mounted that earlier version, Factor VIII, was infecting hemophiliacs with HIV. The company continued to sell old medicine overseas; records show Cutter officials were trying to avoid being stuck with large stores of product that was proving increasingly unmarketable in US and Europe. Bayer company continued to make old medicine for several months after it began selling new product. There obviously was a motive for Bayer to do this since it had several fixed-price contracts.

The precise human toll of these marketing decisions two decades ago may be impossible to document now; in Hong Kong and Taiwan alone, more than 100 hemophiliacs got HIV after using Cutter's old medicine, and many have since died.

Cutter continued to sell older product after Feb 1984 in Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Japan and Argentina; figures are from Cutter documents produced in connection with lawsuits filed by American hemophiliacs.

Bayer issues statement defending Cutter, saying company continued to sell old medicine because some customers doubted new drug's effectiveness, and some countries were slow to approve its sale.

In the US, AIDS was passed on to thousands of hemophiliacs, many of whom died, before new product was developed.

Bayer and three other companies, while admitting no wrongdoing, have paid hemophiliacs about $600 million to settle more than 15 years of lawsuits. Bayer knew about the fact that the drug was tainted and told the FDA to keep things under wraps while they made a profit off of a drug that infected its patients.

Both Bayer and the FDA are at fault for this catastrophe. FDA regulators helped to keep the continued sales hidden, asking the company that the problem be ''quietly solved without alerting the Congress, the medical community and the public,'' according to the minutes of a 1985 meeting.

"Anyone with any business sense can understand that Bayer wanted a "return on investment" since they had already spent the money. The ethics of capitalism! ....this is what is taught at any college business class. There are plenty of examples in which multinationals exploit loopholes or ignorance in other countries to make profits." - Phoenix

The Black and White pictures were taken from a friend Ken Baxter's Facebook site, where he states:

"I have made the last 20 years to make a difference in the hemophilia community. Some of the photos you saw I recorded myself. They were pictures of my friends and those were the hardest photos to do. I had to ask their wives for permission to record the death bed moments...

...I explained to their wives how important it was to create a historical record of events. I truly believe everyone needs to see the images as well as know the story of mass murder in the hemophilia community. Many fellow hemophiliacs are angry at me for showing those images. Someone has to do the “dirty” work of facing the ugly truth, and ignoring the emotional pain that comes from pushing the truth forward."

Most people are still unaware of the "hemophilia holocaust" that has claimed the lives of thousands. This book sheds light on the dark horror of a preventable disaster.

Blood transfusions have always been a tricky business, and since the emergence of HIV, they have been downright deadly to hemophiliacs who rely on plasma clotting factors to survive. As the CDC and corporations, for reasons of political correctness and profit, refuse to address the source issues, the public remains insidiously vulnerable to blood-born diseases. In Dying in Vein, Mackay and Milbouer construct a testament in pictures and words to the legacy of ignorance and greed and the terrible personal cost for the innocent. Through compelling photographs, by MacKay, and a moving narrative, by Milbouer, this book will help readers understand why this travesty DIDN'T have to happen! Each of the stories of the hemophiliacs contaminated with HIV through blood clotting factor, will move the reader to ask the question, "Why did our country let this nightmare happen when they knew ways to test the blood?" Why didn't they listen to those who were advising them to take extra measures in testing the blood and blood clotting products? Why should people read this book? The simple answer is that ALL Americans must know the TRUTH about what happened during the early and mid-1980s in the blood banks. As the Institute of Medicine stated in its investigation, the FDA was slow to act on a treatment proven to prevent transmission of the virus. Also, the FDA was negligent because it failed to test for hepatitis b core antibodies. The CDC recommended the FDA use certain screening procedures, but they chose not to test. Was expense an issue? Thus, thousands of hemophiliacs and non-hemophiliacs were contaminated with HIV, and eventually died of AIDS, hepatitis C, or AIDS related illnesses. Kathy MacKay is a strong and courageous woman, who watched her hemophiliac husband die needlessly of hepatitis C as a result of his HIV infection. David MacKay was only 33 years old and a loving father and special needs teacher. A life snuffed out much too soon, because not enough action was taken to protect the blood products. The pictures of children, women, and men of all ages will touch your heart and cause anger that this happened in America. This book struck a chord within me, since my own elderly mother,a non-hemophiliac, was transfused with HIV contaminated blood in 1983 while undergoing heart bypass surgery. She felt like a leper. The Institute of Medicine in 1995 criticized the blood banks for not informing the people that the risk of infection was much higher than it had stated. MacKay, my mother and thousands of others were not told the truth. When people say, "We didn't know much about the safety of the blood supply in the early or mid-1980s," I feel compelled to answer, "Well, maybe society didn't know, because no one informed them. However, the blood banks, CDC, and FDA certainly were aware of the dangers and risks, yet failed to act on screening the blood to make it safer." This holocaust must never be forgotten! Too many innocent lives were lost. Every American must read this book to know the truth. It is part of the history of the U.S.A. As we view the pictures and read the stories of each individual in this shocking book, we say, "This didn't have to happen!
