Massive 8.8 Earthquake Hits Chile

An magnitude 8.8 earthquake struck central Chile early Saturday, the U.S. Geological Survey said.

CNN reports that an 8.8 earthquake struck at 06: 34 GMT, some 91 km Northeast of the Chilean city of Concepcion. A powerful earthquake with an initial magnitude of 8.8 on the Richter scale has struck central Chile, BBC reports Saturday citing the US Geological Survey (USGS). The US also issued a tsunami warning for Chile, Peru and Ecuador and later extended it to Colombia, Antarctica, Panama and Costa Rica while Japan's meteorological agency warned of a potential tsunami across large areas of the Pacific. The earthquake struck 35 km deep at 06: 34 GMT, some 91 km Northeast of the city of Concepcion and 317 km Southwest of the capital, Santiago.

Buildings in Santiago were reported to have shaken for between 10 and 30 seconds, with the loss of electricity and communications, however information on casualties is not yet available. A Reuters witness reported shaking buildings and loss of electricity in Santiago, which is north of the epicenter. BBC cite a university professor in Santiago saying that this was a massive quake but that the cities seemed to have resisted well. Internet communications were working but not mobile phones.

The quake's epicenter was located near the town of Concepcion, 212 miles (341 kilometers) from the capital, Santiago. A tsunami warning was issued for Chile and Peru, the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said.
"An earthquake of this size has the potential to generate a destructive tsunami that can strike coastlines near the epicenter within minutes and more distant coastlines within hours," the National Weather Service said in a statement.
Alessandro Perez, who is staying at the Santiago Marriott Hotel, reported shattered glass, but there was no structural damage. No one at the hotel was injured, he said. Anita Herrera, who works at the Hotel Kennedy in Santiago, said electricity was out at that hotel and guests were nervous.  "Our hotel is built for this," she said. "In Chile this happens many times."

Chile holds the record for the largest earthquake in the world, according to the USGS. A magnitude 9.5 quake struck the South American country in May 1960 and killed 1,655 people

The earthquake struck 90km northeast of Concepcion at a depth of 55km at 3.34am (7.43pm NZ Time). The quake was initially reported at a magnitude of 8.3, with very strong shaking lasted for 10 to 30 seconds.

A tsunami warning was issued early on Saturday for Chile and Peru and a tsunami watch was issued for Ecuador, the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center reported.

The centre said: "An earthquake of this size has the potential to generate a destructive tsunami that can strike coastlines near the epicenter within minutes and more distant coastlines within hours."

Ministry of Civil Defence & Emergency Management issued a statement, saying "based on current information, the initial assessment is that the earthquake is unlikely to have caused a tsunami that will pose a threat to New Zealand."

HAARPed Again?

The earthquake in Haiti caused by an experiment of the United States. Writes that the Venezuelan Ministry of Communications and Information.

The ministry is based on research by the Russian Northern Fleet, which the U.S. fleet movements in the Caribbean, where Haiti is located, would follow. The Russian investigation by the Venezuelan Ministry revealed that the U.S. Navy with one of his "earthquake weapons" has caused the quake.

The Ministry claims that the Americans since the end of their 70 years' earthquake weapons "have greatly improved. One of Iran is the next targets, says the Ministry of Communications and Information Venozolaanse.

As personnel representing hundreds of government and nongovernment agencies from around the world rush to the aid of earthquake-devastated Haiti, the Defense Information Systems Agency has launched a Web portal with multiple social networking tools to aid in coordinating their efforts.

On Monday, Jean Demay, DISA's technical manager for the agency's Transnational Information Sharing Cooperation project, happened to be at the headquarters of the U.S. Southern Command in Miami preparing for a test of the system in a scenario that involved providing relief to Haiti in the wake of a hurricane. After the earthquake hit on Tuesday, Demay said SOUTHCOM decided to go live with the system. On Wednesday, DISA opened up its All Partners Access Network, supported by the Transnational Information Sharing Cooperation project, to any organization supporting Haiti relief efforts.

The information sharing project, developed with backing from both SOUTHCOM and the Defense Department's European Command, has been in development for three years. It is designed to facilitate multilateral collaboration between federal and nongovernmental agencies.

Demay said that since DISA set up a Haiti Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief Community of Interest on APAN on Wednesday, almost 500 organizations and individuals have joined, including a range of Defense units and various nongovernmental organizations and relief groups.

APAN provides a series of collaboration tools, including geographical information systems, wikis, YouTube and MySpace-like pages and multilingual chat rooms.

Meanwhile, other organizations are tackling different technological challenges. Gianluca Bruni, the Dubai-based information technology chief for emergency preparedness and response for the World Food Programme, is setting up networks and systems to support United Nations and nongovernmental organizations in Haiti. WFP already has dispatched two communications kits to Haiti, with satellite systems that operate at 1 megabit per second and can support up to 100 users. It also has sent laptop computers, Wi-Fi access points and long-range point-to-point wireless systems to connect remote users to the satellite terminals. Bruni said eventually WFP plans to set up cyber cafés in Haiti for use all relief workers in the country.

Jon Anderson, a DISA spokesman, said the agency is supplying 10 megabits of satellite capacity to Navy, Marine and Air Force units engaged in the Haiti relief operation.

Many of the relief organizations and agencies in Haiti are bringing their own radio systems to the country. DISA has deployed a three-person team from its Joint Spectrum Management Element to help manage radio frequency spectrum.

Chile and Japan Earthquake Conspiracy
Chile and Japan have reported massive earthquakes at 8.8 and 6.9 Magnitudes, respectively in the last 24 hours.[source]

Chile and Japan are both home to huge observatories. We wonder again if science gone has gone mad -created an accident by intention or otherwise, if governments are manipulating political influence, or if it is the earth’s tectonics naturally shifting that have caused two incredible large earthquakes.

Chile is home to the Llano de Chajnantor Observatory including the Atacama Large Millimeter Array- ALMA. It is the largest and most sensitive instrument in the world at millimeter and submillimeter wavelengths. Other antennas there include:
CBI  microwave
ASTE  submillimeter
APEX  submillimeter
NANTEN2 millimeter-submillimeter
ACT microwave
QUIET microwave
TAO optical-infrared
ALMA millimeter-submillimeter
ALMA is an international partnership of Europe, North America and East Asia, and is the largest astronomical project in existence. ALMA is a fusion of ideas, with its roots in three astronomical projects: the Millimeter Array (MMA) of the United States, the Large Southern Array (LSA) of Europe, and the Large Millimeter Array (LMA) of Japan. according to WIKI.

Could any of these have the potential to create some sort of wave generation power to create an earthquake?

On the other side of the world is Japan’s National Astronomical Observatory Japan who issued this press release recently: Three antennas working in unison open new bright year for revolutionary observatory.

The Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) has passed a key milestone crucial for the high-quality images that will be the trademark of this revolutionary new tool for astronomy. Astronomers and engineers have, for the first time, successfully linked three of the observatory’s antennas at the 5000-meter elevation observing site in northern Chile. Having three antennas observing in unison provides the missing link to correct errors that arise when only two antennas are used, thus paving the way for precise images of the cool Universe at unprecedented resolution. [source]

While not expected to be completely operational until 2012, this January only weeks before the Haiti quake and now two huge quakes in Chile and Japan- three antennas have gone online. Are they sending and receiving waves?

From our friends in Tokyo, Japan is the induction magnetometer installed at the HAARP site in Alaska. It is designed to detect temporal variations of the geomagnetic field. The following illustrates the 36 hour time period surrounding the earthquakes.

Current geophysical data is available from more scientific instruments at HAARP . What motivations would a country have to aim a Tesla like earthquake weapon, if one exists at all?

The website “Not Another Conspiracy,” points out the political connection that Tokyo made an offer to construct five nuclear power plants for Tehran. Most of the world is against Iran having any sort of access to Uranium for any use. We point out that Japan is now the U.S.’s largest holder of Treasury debt. America bombs them and they own us. Humph.

Ionospheric absorption Feb 25-27, 2010

Last week, Chile’s former Labor and Social Security Minister demystifies the U.S.’s $100 trillion unfunded benefits problem. Since Pinera is the man who many years ago privatized Chile’s entitlement system, America, and the entire Western system, which for the past century has been relying on unfunded liabilities to provide benefits to the population in the hopes that funding day will never come, may do well to listen to what he has to say.
His message: "the American way of life, more so than anything else, in which reckless spending, living on credit and not saving for the future, is precisely why the US will be bankrupt very soon.
So this big hole is not only a problem in America, it’s exactly the same problem in Greece today, in Southern Europe, in France, in Germany. The west will go bankrupt unless you reform deeply the entitlement state. You are all prisoners of the Bismark unfunded entitlement system…"
Is this “big hole,” and yet another seismic catastrophe just the opportunity for a New World Order and loss of American sovereignty as some have suggested?

Alas, back to the quakes- there is no dispute that Japan sits above 4 tectonic plates. These are the North American, the Eurasian, the Philippine Sea Plate and the Pacific Plate, often referred to as the Niigata-Kobe Tectonic Zone(NKTZ).

And, from Nat Geo via, Chili’s earthquake occurred along the junction of the Nazca and South American tectonic plates, which are colliding off the coast of Chile at a rate of 80 millimeters per year….one of the most active tectonic zones in the world.

Long and short Chile, and Japan sit on active tectonic plates and both have considerable observatories to monitor whatever you can imagine, and perhaps create whatever you can imagine. What is not an imagination is that fact is that a tsunami alert went out hours before the first waves, described by Nat Geo as, “traveling at the speed of a passenger jetliner and were expected to hit Hawaii at 11:19 this morning, local time.”

ABC news added that,” The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center also issued a tsunami advisory for the coast of California and an Alaskan coastal area from Kodiak to Attu islands. /

Hawaii Tsunami Warning Cancelled

Pacific Warning Tsunami Warning cancelled according to Governor Lingle, channel 2 news from Hawaii as of 6:47 p.m EST. “No assessment of any damage of any county, which is quite remarkable,” said Lingle.

Chile Earthquake Facts

* In 1960, Chile was hit by the world's biggest earthquake in records dating back to 1900, US Geological Survey data shows. The 9.5-magnitude quake devastated the south-central coastal city of Valdivia, killing 1655 people and sending a tsunami that battered Easter Island, 3700km off Chile's Pacific seaboard, and continued as far as Hawaii, Japan and the Philippines.

* Chile's chain of about 2000 volcanoes is the world's second-largest after Indonesia, and is part of the Pacific "Ring of Fire" of seismic activity. Some 50 to 60 are on record as having erupted, and 500 are potentially active. The Chaiten volcano, 1200km south of Santiago in the Patagonia region, erupted in May 2008 for the first time in thousands of years, spewing a plume of ash visible from space.

* Chile is one of the longest countries in the world, stretching around 4300km from its northern desert border with Peru and Bolivia to South America's southern tip by Cape Horn, once a major world trade route.

* Chile is the world's biggest producer of copper, its main export. It produces about 34 percent of world output of the metal, which is used in electronics, cars and refrigerators. Most of the mines are in the north.

* Dictator Augusto Pinochet ruled Chile with an iron fist for 17 years from a 1973 coup until 1990. Pinochet died in 2006 without facing full trial on rights abuses during his rule, when more than 3000 people were killed or disappeared and an estimated 28,000 people were tortured.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center has issued a tsunami advisory for the State of Hawaii. An earthquake with a magnitude of 8.5 has occurred near Chile. It is unknown at this time if a tsunami has been generated.

The quake occurred offshore Maule, Chile at a depth of 36.9 miles, according to preliminary information. A far more serious tsunami warning is in effect for Chile and Peru. A tsunami watch is in effect for Ecuador.

The Seat of Thought

"If I may I would like to point out we are not entertaining you. We are not indulging in some kind of intellectual game, or trying to point out what kind of belief you should have; or to seek a leader to solve our problems. We are not doing any kind of propaganda to persuade you to think in a particular direction, or to convince you of a particular point of view. But we are thinking together, observing together the problems, the crisis, that we are facing, the war, destruction, corruption, and the superstitions in the name of religion; all that nonsense that goes on in the name of religion, god and so on." - Jiddu Krishnamurti Madras 1st public talk

Thought has no place whatsoever in the silent mind.” (Mary Lutyens Biography: Volume 2: Years of Fulfilment, page 176)
Thought is necessary to accumulate knowledge to function skillfully,
Remarkable statements. Thought has created our entire civilization; it dominates all our days and our entire life, from sentient being to death. It is at the very centre of all our self-identity, goals, ambitions, occupation, social status and relationships. It has created all of science, technology, architecture, philosophy, religions, languages and the myriad iconic images of god. Yet, these statements are flatly stating that psychological thought is simply not required to live our daily lives. Period.

Can the brain stop recording experiences in memory?

The mind, as we know it, encompasses the brain, all feelings, and all the body senses. But it is the brain that is the seat of thought. The brain is a recorder and, not so strangely as it turns out, functions very much like a computer, which is its own creation. A computer mimics the actual structure of the brain: both are run entirely on fragmented memory (necessitating hard-drive defragmentation - like the deconditioning of the mind); and there is a remarkable symmetry between DNA code and computer programming binary code Scientist Creates Life – Almost (Time Magazine, January 24, 2008).

The brain is much more subtle, imitative and clever than we think.

Recording is accumulation. Accumulation is the central drive, or desire, of thought - to become something. Accumulating experiences, knowledge, fame, money and power. Accumulation gives comfort, pleasure and security to the self. The talks state that recording occurs only through inattention, which implies that most of the time we are not paying full attention to what we are doing and to what is occurring around us. (David Bohm, The Ending of Time: Chapter 3, 'Why has Man given Supreme Importance to Thought?' - April 8, 1980)
"Thought is time..."Thought brings about irrationality."
Thought, as time, is the problem. One must fully understand this statement, for it lies at the center of the Core of the Talks. Time is also thought. When one is fully in the present, when one is wholly attentive to the now, there is no thought. Thought comes in to fill this void, as it fears this blankness, or emptiness. It is thus concerned to be occupied with something all the time.

Thought is conditioned by the past, by memory, one can see this in oneself. It divides life into fragments: you can see when you look into the mind that there is a "me" and a "not me." On a worldwide scale this division is nationalism. Thought does not consider the unity of mankind, it is always narrow, self-interested and conforming to a pattern. It constantly plays games with itself, it is highly self-deceptive.

You can observe over time that the nature and content of your thought doesn’t change. You may have supposedly ‘new’ thoughts (new ideas, or so-called memes, which are only recycled from other people’s ideas) and a resultant change in lifestyle, which is essentially superficial, but the fundamental content of thought remains the same. Self-interested, deceptive, superficial, obsessing over particular repetitive memories, in fear, looking for direction, for endless distraction.

This is one of the deep statements that lies at the base of the talks. Thought, unlike the rest of nature, simply doesn’t evolve.

The brain is always recording and so the issue becomes one of what needs to be registered to live and what is only psychological registration in the defense and support of the self. Thought creates images as a part of its creation of this self. If thought ceases, then this movement of image-making ends, does it not?

Can you observe that thought is incapable of looking at facts without reaction? Can you see that it is always escaping from the actual? The self is the observer, the controller, which is the essence of our identity. It is seemingly separate from its thoughts. Over time, this observer has become an intrinsic part of one’s nature.

We believe that the self is an inherent part of human nature, do we not?
Why has thought constructed an illusory self? "Is not your every action a self-centered activity." (The Awakening of Intelligence: New York City Talk dialogue, April 24, 1971)

The essence of the self is arrogance and deception: the belief that “I know," which by extension means others don’t. The self is the antithesis of humility, which it shuns as socially inept behavior. It is thought's creation of continuity, of security, of the movement of psychological time. At the base of thought is desire, which is the essence of the self - seeking both security and pleasure, comfort, and the avoidance of pain.

The self is thought’s masterpiece of deception and a means of escape from the "what is." It wears masks to conceal its true motives. It is always accumulating: outwardly, this is represented in money and possessions; inwardly, as experiences and knowledge. These accumulations burden the mind and only produce the desire for more: more money, more experiences, more pleasure, and more knowledge. There is never a final satisfaction, as the self does not rest in the present, but is in a constant state of becoming.

The separate self is, of course, at the very core of what is called 'duality.' It is the construction of opposites, which are the concepts of the intellect, without understanding/insight. The self is the observer in the statement:
"The observer is the observed."
Nonduality, or what is called 'the perennial philosophy,' is the complete ending of this fictional creation of thought; it is integration of the heart, mind and body:
The ‘me’ is brought about through thought; it has no reality by itself. …”(The Impossible Question: Chapter 4: 'Fragmentation' - July 23, 1970, page 46)
"Self-knowing is the understanding of becoming in oneself." (Pupul Jayakar Biography: Chapter 27, "Action Without Consequence?" - page 204)
Is it all about the ending of thought?
There is the understanding of what is, an adequate action towards what is, only when the mind is not seeking any escape. The very thinking about what is, is an escape from what is. Thinking about the problem is escape from the problem, for thinking is the problem, and the only problem.
The mind, unwilling to be what it is, fearful of what it is, seeks these various escapes; and the way of escape is thought. As long as there is thinking, there must be escapes, attachments, which only strengthen conditioning. Freedom from conditioning comes with the freedom from thinking.
When the mind is utterly still, only then is there freedom for the real to be." (Commentaries on Living: Series 11: Chapter 2, "Conditioning')
"The brain is the source of thought. The brain is matter and thought is matter. Can the brain - with all its reactions and its immediate responses to every challenge and demand - can the brain be very still? It is not a question of ending thought, but of whether the brain can be completely still.  This stillness is not physical death. See what happens when the brain is completely still."  (The Urgency of Change: page 187)
There has been much discussion over whether the talks are positing the end of thought, per se. They are. "Thinking is the problem, and the only problem." Obviously, thought itself has its place (referred to as technical thought), as all the senses have their place. One needs the intellect of logic and reason to live one’s daily life, to plan for the material future. The talks are addressing the possibility of the utterly still mind, where thought will come into being only when required to live practically, in the moment.

Undeniably, the talks are concerned with the ending of the self. The self is the creation of thought, so end the self and thought ends. The end of the self is the end of all experiences carried over from the past, as well as ending all psychological memory; which is dying to each day. There is only the carry over of memory which is essential for everyday practical or technical living and the denial of all the rest. The point is that one must come to the state of a silent mind, for this is when insight takes place.

What does this statement really mean: "The observer is the observed"?

We have complicated this core statement beyond a clear understanding of it. It means: "The thinker is the thought" - no more, no less. There is no separate independent thinker, it is all just thought. To put it another way: you are that which you are observing in yourself, you are not separate from it, despite the strong, even innate, sense that you feel you are.

What is called fragmentation is that movement of thought that has separated itself into two components. The self, which is time, which is the observer, which is the past, and the not self, which is everything that is observed by the self, including thought itself. But the observer is the same nature as that which it observes. In life itself, in all of nature, there simply is no division. There is an essential oneness, which can be seen when the thought process comes to an end. Man is the only creature on earth that has created a separate and apparently ‘independent observer’, that appears to be observing itself and the world around it. The self is a trick of the mind, a controller separate from itself:

The observer is the self. The observer detaches itself from that which it observes in itself - the loneliness, emptiness etc. This very detachment - division - is an escape from the actual.”   (The Impossible Question: page 119)
"So we come to a point where we can say, the observer is also the image, only he has separated himself and observes. This observer who has come into being through various other images thinks himself permanent and between himself and the images he has created there is a division, a time interval. This creates conflict between himself and the images he believes to be the cause of his troubles. So then he says, "I must get rid of this conflict", but the very desire to get rid of the conflict creates another image.

Awareness of all this, which is real meditation, has revealed that there is a central image put together by all the other images, and the central image, the observer, is the censor, the experiencer, the evaluator, the judge who wants to conquer or subjugate the other images or destroy them altogether. The other images are the result of judgments, opinions and conclusions by the observer, and the observer is the result of all the other images - therefore the observer is the observed.” (Commentaries On Living: Series II: Chapter 50, 'Convictions--Dreams')
So the observer is the observed actually is a phrase that is quite simple to understand. It is the analytical and abstract thought process that complicates it. This becomes a clever escape from facing up to the actual fact of it. There is seemingly no end to the trickery and deceptiveness of thought; have you noticed that in yourself? Thought plays games and has an innate suspicion of simplicity, which explains why society as a whole is utterly dependent upon myriad experts to solve all of its problems.

Can thought be aware of itself?

This is a pivotal point. The following passage, which also addresses the importance of realization, brings these questions to the fore:

So there has been in my conversation with myself the discovery that loneliness is created by thought. Thought has now realized of itself that it is limited and so cannot solve the problem of loneliness. …Thought has created this sense of loneliness, this emptiness, because it is limited, fragmentary, divided and when it realizes this, loneliness is not, therefore there is freedom from attachment.” (Brockwood Park: 3rd Public Talk, September 8, 1973)
Thought must be aware of its own ways, of its own cunning deceptions. All consciousness, surely, whether it is of the past, the present, or the future, is within the field of thought; and any change within that field, which sets the boundaries of the mind, is no real change. A radical change can take place only outside the field of thought, not within it, and the mind can leave the field only when it sees the confines, the boundaries of the field, and realizes that any change within the field is no change at all. This is real meditation. In being aware of itself, without any desire to be or not to be, the mind comes to a state of inaction.

Inaction is not death; it is a passive watchfulness in which thought is wholly inactive. It is the highest state of sensitivity. When the mind is completely inactive at all its levels, only then is there action. All the activities of the mind are mere sensations, reactions to stimulation, to influence, and so not action at all. When the mind is without activity, there is action; this action is without cause, and only then is there bliss.” (Commentaries on Living: Series I, Chapter 85, 'Sensation and Happiness')
The actual nature of this realization, and the state or quality of mind in which this self-awareness takes place, appear to be the most difficult issues of all in the talks. Have we ever realized anything? Realization is seeing something new.

Are we psychologically capable of it?

Scientists Admit No Global Warming

Climategate U-turn as scientist at center of row admits: There has been no global warming since 1995.

Professor Phil Jones admitted his record keeping is ‘not as good as it should be’. The academic at the centre of the ‘Climategate’ affair, whose raw data is crucial to the theory of climate change, has admitted that he has trouble keeping track’ of the information. Colleagues say that the reason Professor Phil Jones has refused Freedom of Information requests is that he may have actually lost the relevant papers.

Professor Jones told the BBC yesterday there was truth in the observations of colleagues that he lacked organizational skills, that his office was swamped with piles of paper and that his record keeping is ‘not as good as it should be’.

The data is crucial to the famous ‘hockey stick graph’ used by climate change advocates to support the theory. Professor Jones also conceded the possibility that the world was warmer in medieval times than now – suggesting global warming may not be a man-made phenomenon. And he said that for the past 15 years there has been no ‘statistically significant’ warming.

The admissions will be seized on by skeptics as fresh evidence that there are serious flaws at the heart of the science of climate change and the orthodoxy that recent rises in temperature are largely man-made.

Professor Jones has been in the spotlight since he stepped down as director of the University of East Anglia’s Climatic Research Unit after the leaking of emails that skeptics claim show scientists were manipulating data.

The raw data, collected from hundreds of weather stations around the world and analyzed by his unit, has been used for years to bolster efforts by the United Nation’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change to press governments to cut carbon dioxide emissions.[source]

L. Gordon Crovitz falsely claimed in a Wall Street Journal column that Phil Jones, director of the Climatic Research Unit at the University of East Anglia, told BBC that "there was more warming in the medieval period, before today's allegedly man-made effects," when in fact Jones said the available data does not establish this claim. Moreover, Crovitz falsely claimed that the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) "has backed away from" its 2007 statement that up to 40 percent of the Amazonian rainforests are highly sensitive to reductions in rainfall; in fact, IPCC stands by the statement, which is supported by peer-reviewed science despite the incomplete citation in the IPCC report.[source]

Following the leak of the emails, Professor Jones has been accused of ‘scientific fraud’ for allegedly deliberately suppressing information and refusing to share vital data with critics. Discussing the interview, the BBC’s environmental analyst Roger Harrabin said he had spoken to colleagues of Professor Jones who had told him that his strengths included integrity and doggedness but not record-keeping and office tidying

Mr Harrabin, who conducted the interview for the BBC’s website, said the professor had been collating tens of thousands of pieces of data from around the world to produce a coherent record of temperature change.

That material has been used to produce the ‘hockey stick graph’ which is relatively flat for centuries before rising steeply in recent decades.

According to Mr Harrabin, colleagues of Professor Jones said ‘his office is piled high with paper, fragments from over the years, tens of thousands of pieces of paper, and they suspect what happened was he took in the raw data to a central database and then let the pieces of paper go because he never realized that 20 years later he would be held to account over them’

Asked by Mr Harrabin about these issues, Professor Jones admitted the lack of organization in the system had contributed to his reluctance to share data with critics, which he regretted.

But he denied he had cheated over the data or unfairly influenced the scientific process, and said he still believed recent temperature rises were predominantly man-made. Asked about whether he lost track of data, Professor Jones said:
"There is some truth in that. We do have a trail of where the weather stations have come from but it’s probably not as good as it should be." ‘There’s a continual updating of the dataset. Keeping track of everything is difficult. Some countries will do lots of checking on their data then issue improved data, so it can be very difficult. We have improved but we have to improve more."
He also agreed that there had been two periods which experienced similar warming, from 1910 to 1940 and from 1975 to 1998, but said these could be explained by natural phenomena whereas more recent warming could not. He further admitted that in the last 15 years there had been no ‘statistically significant’ warming, although he argued this was a blip rather than the long-term trend. And he said that the debate over whether the world could have been even warmer than now during the medieval period, when there is evidence of high temperatures in northern countries, was far from settled.

Skeptics believe there is strong evidence that the world was warmer between about 800 and 1300 AD than now because of evidence of high temperatures in northern countries.

But climate change advocates have dismissed this as false or only applying to the northern part of the world. Professor Jones departed from this consensus when he said:
‘There is much debate over whether the Medieval Warm Period was global in extent or not. The MWP is most clearly expressed in parts of North America, the North Atlantic and Europe and parts of Asia.'
‘For it to be global in extent, the MWP would need to be seen clearly in more records from the tropical regions and the Southern hemisphere. There are very few palaeoclimatic records for these latter two regions. ‘Of course, if the MWP was shown to be global in extent and as warm or warmer than today, then obviously the late 20th Century warmth would not be unprecedented. On the other hand, if the MWP was global, but was less warm than today, then the current warmth would be unprecedented.’
Skeptics said this was the first time a senior scientist working with the IPCC had admitted to the possibility that the Medieval Warming Period could have been global, and therefore the world could have been hotter then than now.

Professor Jones criticized those who complained he had not shared his data with them, saying they could always collate their own from publicly available material in the US. And he said the climate had not cooled ‘until recently – and then barely at all. The trend is a warming trend’. Mr Harrabin told Radio 4’s Today program that, despite the controversies, there still appeared to be no fundamental flaws in the majority scientific view that climate change was largely man-made. But Dr Benny Pieser, director of the skeptical Global Warming Policy Foundation, said Professor Jones’s ‘excuses’ for his failure to share data were hollow as he had shared it with colleagues and ‘mates’.

He said that until all the data was released, skeptics could not test it to see if it supported the conclusions claimed by climate change advocates. He added that the professor’s concessions over medieval warming were ‘significant’ because they were his first public admission that the science was not settled.[source]

Jones was the director of the Climatic Research Unit (CRU) at the University of East Anglia in Norwich, UK, when, last November, more than 1,000 e-mails and documents were illegally obtained from the university and posted on the Internet. Their contents quickly embroiled him in a controversy that has shaken the climate community and threatened his career

Jones has stood down from his post while several independent investigations look into the affair, including one headed by Muir Russell, former vice-chancellor of the University of Glasgow, UK, which will assess allegations that the e-mails contain evidence of poor scientific practice at the CRU.

I had an hour to speak with Jones about the allegations that pertain specifically to his conduct as a scientist. Jones seemed rattled by the events of the past few months, and was reluctant to revisit the details of how it has affected him personally. He was also unable to comment on allegations that he withheld or destroyed data from his critics, as this is currently under investigation by the Muir enquiry.

But he was eager to set the record straight on the science.

Central to the Russell investigation is the issue of whether he or his CRU colleagues ever published data that they knew was potentially flawed, in order to bolster the evidence for man-made global warming. The claim specifically relates to one of Jones’s research papers on whether the urban heat island effect — in which cities tend to be warmer than the surrounding countryside — could be responsible for the apparent rise in temperature readings from thermometers in the late twentieth century. Jones's paper found that the local effect was negligible, and that the dominant effect was global climate change.

But in 2007, amateur climate-data analyst Doug Keenan alleged that the results could be biased by the fact that the weather stations used in the analysis had been moved during the period of the study. As Jones's co-author Wei-Chyung Wang of the University at Albany in New York had subsequently lost records of where the stations were located, there was no way of verifying or refuting Keenan's claim.

The authors had claimed in the paper, published in Nature in 1990, that the Chinese data were selected on the basis of station history. "We chose those with few, if any, changes in instrumentation, location or observation times", wrote Jones and colleagues.

Jones now admits that the stations probably did move during the period of analysis, and as such, the paper may in fact need a correction. "I will give that some thought. It's worthy of consideration," says Jones.

But Jones is adamant that this doesn't actually change the conclusion of the analysis. In a subsequent paper, published in the Journal of Geophysical Research in 2008, Jones verified the original conclusions for the Chinese data for the period 1954–1983, showing that the precise location of weather stations was unimportant to the outcome. suggested elsewhere. As lead author on the paper, Jones should have been confident of the quality of the data sets. But twenty years ago, standards for collecting and archiving data simply weren't what they are now and these sorts of data were hard to come by. At worst, the current evidence seems to point to sloppy record-keeping, something that I suspect more than a handful of scientists are guilty of. [full story]

So what does all of this mean? Well, for the sake of clarity, it would seem that the 1990 paper should be corrected to clear up the claim about the station positions, in light of the fact that it can no longer be verified. A correction could also point readers to the subsequent paper that is based on a more substantive analysis.

But this just one of the allegations against Jones. In the interview, he also defends himself against accusations that he – together with collaborators – has tried to underplay the importance of the Medieval Warm Period (MWP), and that he has tried to interfere with the peer review process.

If the MWP, a warm phase roughly around AD 1000, was greater in severity and extent than current evidence suggests it could undermine the claim that current warming is unprecedented in the past 1,000 years.

Gardasil Vaccine Deception

THE NZ MINISTRY OF HEALTH IGNORED THE WARNINGS OF ITS OWN DIRECTOR OF GARDASIL CLINICAL TRIALS

Julie Smith, researcher and founder of a NZ website set up specifically to give information about the HPV vaccine, Gardasil, says concerned parents have been contacting her wanting to know how they can help to have the vaccine withdrawn from NZ. [continue reading]

Ms Smith says Many more parents are making the connection to their child’s sudden onset of deteriorating health since receiving the Gardasil vaccine.”

What is now happening to our girls here in New Zealand is replicating what has already happened overseas. It was only a matter of time before girls here were going to die from this vaccine,” said Ms Smith.

When Dr Diane Harper, the woman who designed and conducted the clinical trials for Gardasil, asked our government to take a wait and see approach to this vaccine, why did our MoH not heed her advice? Why, when Dr Harper asked the MoH not to promote Gardasil as a ‘cervical cancer vaccine’ because, in her words, this is simply not true, did the Ministry of Health ignore her request?

These are just two of the many questions Miss Smith says should be put to the Ministry of Health.”

According to the research Ms Smith has discovered, ninety eight per cent of all women can rid their bodies of human papilloma viruses thanks to the action of their own immune system, and of those two per cent who can’t the National Cervical Smear programme will usually detect any pre-cancerous cell changes so they can be treated before cancer develops.

Girls and young women have no real health advantage by being vaccinated with Gardasil.  However, it is apparent from the many reports here and overseas, of serious adverse reactions to the vaccine, that they do place their health at risk by having this vaccine, Smith maintains.[source]

For the last several years, HPV vaccines have been marketed to the public and mandated in compulsory injections for young girls in several states based on the idea that they prevent cervical cancer. Now, NaturalNews has obtained documents from the FDA and other sources (see below) which reveal that the FDA has been well aware for several years that Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) has no direct link to cervical cancer.

NaturalNews has also learned that HPV vaccines have been proven to be flatly worthless in clearing the HPV virus from women who have already been exposed to HPV (which includes most sexually active women), furthermore, this story reveals evidence that the vaccine currently being administered for HPV -- Gardasil -- may increase the risk of precancerous cervical lesions by an alarming 44.6 percent in some women. The vaccine, it turns out, may be far more dangerous to the health of women than doing nothing at all.

If true, this information reveals details of an enormous public health fraud being perpetrated on the American people, involving FDA officials, Big Pharma promoters, and even the governors of states like Texas.

This report reveals startling facts about the HPV vaccine that most people will find shocking. [continue reading]

For more than 20 years, the FDA had regulated the HPV test as a "test for cervical cancer." But since at least 2003, the FDA has changed its position on the relationship between Human Papilloma Virus and cervical cancer, stating that the HPV strain is "not associated with cervical cancer."

A company that manufacturers a DNA testing device that can detect the presence of HPV (Human Papilloma Virus) is petitioning the FDA (and suing the FDA) to get it to reclassify its medical device as a "Class II" device based on the revelation that the FDA has already adopted the position that HPV infections do not directly cause cervical cancer.

This would mean that the FDA has been aware for years that HPV does not cause cervical cancer, which means that the FDA's approval of the Gardasil vaccine -- as well as the national push for Gardasil vaccinations -- is based on a grand medical hoax that, not surprisingly, appears to be designed to exploit the fear of cancer to sell vaccines. The victims in all this, of course, are the young girls who are apparently being subjected to a medically useless (and potentially dangerous) vaccine. [continue reading]

The FDA news release of March 31, 2003 acknowledges that "most infections (by HPV) are short-lived and not associated with cervical cancer", in recognition of the advances in medical science and technology since 1988. In other words, since 2003 the scientific staff of the FDA no longer considers HPV infection to be a high-risk disease when writing educational materials for the general public whereas the regulatory arm of the agency is still bound by the old classification scheme that had placed HPV test as a test to stratify risk for cervical cancer in regulating the industry.

In it, the FDA says, "The HPV DNA test is not intended to substitute for regular Pap screening. Nor is it intended to screen women under 30 who have normal Pap tests. Although the rate of HPV infection in this group is high, most infections are short-lived and not associated with cervical cancer." (Emphasis added)

In other words, the FDA knew in 2003 that HPV infections are not associated with cervical cancer.

As the reclassification petition reveals, HPV infections are naturally self-limiting -- meaning that they are controlled naturally, without requiring intervention with drugs or vaccines. It is not the HPV virus itself that causes cervical cancer but rather a persistent state of ill-health on the part of the patient that makes her vulnerable to persistent infections.

Based on new scientific information published in the past 15 years, it is now generally agreed that identifying and typing HPV infection does not bear a direct relationship to stratification of the risk for cervical cancer . Most acute infections caused by HPV are self-limiting...Repeated sequential transient HPV infections, even when caused by "high-risk" HPVs, are characteristically not associated with high risk of developing squamous intraepithelial lesions, a precursor of cervical cancer.

A woman found to be positive for the same strain (genotype) of HPV on repeated testing is highly likely suffering from a persistent HPV infection and is considered to be at high risk of developing precancerous intraepithelial lesions in the cervix . It is the persistent infection, not the virus, that determines the cancer risk.

The FDA agrees with this assessment of the relationship between HPV and cervical cancer, as evidenced by its 2003 news release quoted above.

Next, we reveal evidence that HPV vaccines actually cause precancerous lesions in women. HPV Vaccines Increase the Risk of Precancerous Lesions.[continue reading]

This revelation should be quite shocking to anyone who has been following the debate over Gardasil and mandatory vaccinations of teenage girls. First, it reveals that Gardasil appears to increase disease by 44.6 percent in certain people -- namely, those who were already carriers of the same HPV strains used in the vaccine.

In other words, it appears that if the vaccine is given to a young woman who already carries HPV in a "harmless" state, it may "activate" the infection and directly cause precancerous lesions to appear. The vaccine, in other words, may accelerate the development of precancerous lesions in women.

The FDA directly admits the vaccine is utterly useless in these women, stating in the same document, "Finally, there is compelling evidence that the vaccine lacks therapeutic efficacy among women who have had prior exposure to HPV and have not cleared previous infection (PCR positive and seropositive)."

There are also serious questions about the safety of the vaccine for non-sexually-active young women. Yet even if the vaccine poses no increased risk of cervical cancer for non-sexually-active young girls, there's still the more serious question of: Does the vaccine work? Does it really prevent cervical cancer in the first place? And that question has already been clearly answered by the FDA's own admission that HPV infections are not the cause of cervical cancer in the first place.

This is hardly a position from which to mandate the vaccine for everyone, especially since the vaccine has been widely prescribed as "completely safe" for everyone. It is widely claimed by medical authorities that the vaccine has no downside: No health risks, no increased risk of disease and no potential to cause harm in women. Clearly, these assumptions have no basis in scientific fact.

Keep in mind, too, that Merck, the manufacturer of Gardasil, has publicly suggested that young boys should receive Gardasil vaccinations! Why? Because they might engage in oral sex with girls who carry the virus. Therefore, the story goes, young boys should be vaccinated against this virus that they claim causes cervical cancer! (Never mind the fact that boys don't have a cervix...) There is no end, it seems, to the pseudoscientific nonsense that will be spouted in an effort to sell more Garsasil vaccines to people who don't need them.

To further investigate this conclusion, NaturalNews took a closer look at research published in the Journal of the American Medical Association (August, 2007), entitled, "Effect of Human Papillomavirus 16/18 L1 Viruslike Particle Vaccine Among Young Women With Preexisting Infection"[source]

In other words, the authors found no evidence that the vaccine worked at all. This observation led the authors to offer this damning conclusion that appears to render Gardasil nothing more than a grand medical hoax:

It is difficult to take an honest look at this scientific evidence and the statements made by the FDA and not come to the conclusion that mandatory Gardasil vaccination policies being pushed across U.S. states right now are based on something other than science.

There are many theories exploring the motivation for such vaccination policies. Possible theories include:

Financial benefit: Big Pharma is pushing mandatory Gardasil vaccination policies so that it can profit from selling more vaccines to the states. This idea is at least partially supported by the fact that the first state Governor to mandate such vaccines (Texas Gov. Rick Perry) had undisclosed ties to Big Pharma. (A top official in Perry's administration worked directly for Merck, the manufacturer of Gardasil.)

Conspiracy to poison the people: This theory, which may stretch the bounds of belief in some readers, proposes that such mandatory vaccines are put in place in order to create future disease by poisoning the people with dangerous chemicals and DNA fragments that are knowingly added to vaccines. The poisoning of the people, it is said, will pay off in future profits for Big Pharma when those people develop other serious diseases requiring "treatment" with medications. Many people who support this theory currently believe, for example, that AIDS was engineered by human scientists and then administered to the gay population in New York in the late 1980's through vaccines.

Control the sheeple: This theory supposes that the main purpose of mandatory vaccines is to train the American public to get used to submitting to compulsory medicines. Once a certain segment of the population is targeted and effectively injected with mandatory medicines, these policies can be extended to other groups and, eventually, can encompass the entire population.

The first theory -- Financial Benefit -- is the simplest and easiest theory to believe. It requires nothing more than simple greed on the part of Big Pharma, along with the usual level of corruption at the FDA. NaturalNews believes this is the most likely explanation for events surrounding Gardasil vaccination policies, but we do not rule out other possible explanations, either.

There is no question that Merck has the lack of ethics, the willingness and the means to commit medical fraud on an unprecedented scale. Based on the information revealed in this report, the mandatory vaccination of young girls with Gardasil appears to be the boldest medical hoax yet perpetrated by the company. [continue reading]

NaturalNews believes Merck is currently engaged in a massive medical fraud, and that it has influenced, corrupted or otherwise recruited FDA officials and state health authorities in a grand scheme to sell vaccines that are at best medically worthless, and at worst medically dangerous. Halting cervical cancer seems to have nothing to do with the marketing and prescribing of Gardasil. The entire campaign push for mandatory HPV vaccinations seems to be based entirely in the realm of sales and marketing.

The "marketing" of HPV vaccines involves classic disease mongering -- spreading fear about a disease as a way of corralling patients into begging for the "solution" that just happens to be readily available from the same pharmaceutical company that promoted the disease in the first place. The hype over cervical cancer and Gardasil seems to be nothing more than a classic case of fear-based marketing designed to create such consumer fear over cervical cancer that a massive public outcry would result in legislation mandating the vaccines.
