Society

It's a mystery to me
we have a greed
with which we have agreed

You think you have to want
more than you need
until you have it all you won't be free

Society, you're a crazy breed
I hope you're not lonely without me

The Last Mountain

"Heroes of American Democracy" –Robert F. Kennedy Jr
The documentary, The Last Mountain proves to be just that.  With citizen activist fighting for clean air and water against entrenched interests and corporate dollars, the documentary combines backstory, statistics, and human interest to explain more fully the narrative of where our electricity comes from.

There are approximately 30, or so documentaries regarding the subject of coal; the sad and unfortunate fact is, none of these documentaries  have been effective....stopping these mega coal companies.

I started watching as many documentaries from the list, and soon realized that all of these had a lot of the same people over and over and from both sides. In fact, many of the same stories are told in almost every film and every horror is repeated over and over.

Filmmakers keep coming back to this terrible problem....apparently the hard work isn't working.

Waste Wisely My Days

To awaken each morning with a smile brightening my face;
to greet the day with reverence for the opportunities it contains;
to approach my work with a clean mind;
to hold ever before me, even in the doing of little things, the ultimate purpose toward which I am working;
to meet men and women with laughter on my lips and love in my heart; to be gentle, kind, and courteous through all the hours;
to approach the night with weariness that ever woos sleep and the joy that comes from work well done

This is how I desire to waste wisely my days.

Stand Up Against Hate

Bigotry, homophobia, hate crimes, bullying and any form of discrimination always seems to be a manifestation of fear of the unknown.

Right?

Most people are not comfortable with things or people that they perceive as different from themselves, and I would wager that if we just took the time to get to know one another, did our own investigation, look beneath the surface of things, that we would find that we are no so different after all.

We are also under the illusion that with the wonder of technologies at our fingertips; that the world is coming closer together, that people are becoming more familiar with one another, and that the distance between one human and another is being diminished.

America Is Not The Greatest Country Anymore

>>>>>here's a transcript of the terrific mini-speech from How to Write an Aaron Sorkin Script, by Aaron Sorkin.

A song in a musical works best when a character has to sing —when words won't do the trick anymore.

The same idea applies to a long speech in a play or a movie or on television.

After hearing the same shouting match between right and left he's been hearing forever, and the arguments have become noise.

A student asks what makes America the world's greatest country, and Will dodges the question with glib answers.  But the moderator keeps needling him until...snap.

Happy Ēostre

The word Ēostre or Ostara is just one of the names applied to the celebration of the spring equinox on March 20.

The Venerable Bede said the origin of the word is actually from Eostre, a Germanic goddess of spring.

Of course, it's also the same time as the Christian Easter celebration, and in the Jewish faith, Passover takes place as well.

For early Pagans in the Germanic countries, this was a time to celebrate planting and the new crop season.

Typically, the Celtic peoples did not celebrate Ostara as a holiday, although they were in tune with the changing of the seasons.

Come On Down

Did you think that your feet had been bound by what gravity brings to the ground?

Did you feel you were tricked by the future you picked?

Well, come on down

All these rules don't apply when you're high in the sky

So come on down
Come on down

I Am One Voice

Another year you made a promise
another chance to turn it all around
and do not save this for tomorow
embrace the past and you can live for now

Speak louder that the words before you
and give them meaning no one else has found
The role we play is so important
we are the voices of the underground

Say everything you’ve always wanted,
be not afraid of who you really are,
cause in the end we have each other,
and thats at least one thing worth living for

A million suns that shine upon me
A million eyes you are the brightest blue
Lets tear the walls down that divide us
and build a statue strong enough for two,

Defining Truth

Truth has been put on trial and judged by people who are devoted to lies.

Truth corresponds to reality or “what is.”

Truth is real.

Truth is also correspondent in nature.

Truth desires to appear; truth longs to become conscious; truth strives to know itself. There is truth in the stone, for the stone is here; and no power in the world, no god, no man, no demon, can destroy its existence.

There is truth in the plant and its life can expand; the plant grows and blossoms and bears fruit. Its beauty is marvelous.

There is truth in the animal; it moves about and perceives its surroundings; it distinguishes and learns to choose.
