Meet Your Meat is a look behind the closed doors of todays giant meat, egg and dairy product industries, revealing the shocking truth about the abuse of animals for food.
The video that all meat-eaters should watch and every vegetarian should own, "Meet Your Meat", narrated by Alec Baldwin, covers each stage of life of animals raised for food.
KFC suppliers cram birds into huge waste-filled factories, breed and drug them to grow so large that they can’t even walk, and often break their wings and legs. At slaughter, the birds’ throats are slit and they are dropped into tanks of scalding-hot water—often while they are still conscious. It would be illegal for KFC to abuse dogs, cats, pigs, or cows in these ways.
KFC’s own animal welfare advisors have asked the company to take steps to eliminate these abuses, but KFC refuses to do so. Many advisors have now resigned in frustration.
Life on the farm isn't what it used to be. The green pastures and idyllic barnyard scenes portrayed in children's books have been replaced by windowless sheds, tiny crates, wire cages, and other confinement systems integral to what is now known as "factory farming." Today the majority of farmed animals are:
1. confined to the point that they can barely move,
2. denied veterinary care, - maybe they will be forced to get medical insurance under Obama's plan.
3. mutilated without painkillers, and finally slaughtered -- often while fully conscious.
What a powerful look at the horrors of enslaving and slaughtering animals for food. This is a movie that should be required viewing for all humans.
"If slaughterhouses had glass walls, we'd all be vegetarians." - Linda McCartney
You are what you eat, and full Karma is in effect. Don't be a chicken--you should see this film now about the banality of evil eating. It won't make for pleasant viewing, but it is information very worthy of our consideration and is presented in an accessible, succinct manner. For those concerned about animals or in making the world a kinder place with less suffering in it, this is a must see. No wonder the slaughterhouses are kept from public view, why they call dead animals "pork" and "meat." It sounds so much less related to reality.
If you want to see reality in food production, if you want to know, and not shelter yourself, from what went into making your "burger," see this movie.
