Borrowed Words

I have received a subtanstial amount of email over the past few weeks, expressing  similar discord with my stance against the war.  I find it a little ironic that these very people had no problem taking off work and lazying around the house watching the tube.  No one went to the VA hospital and donated any time, and money to these vets.

Did you? Of course not!

Today is Veteran's Day, a day that is clearly being broadcast over "the Network."  You are being told what to think, and how to feel and that these fallen soldiers should be remembered as heroes, because they were fighting for our freedom.

Folks, do realize that since our most recent war, and ongoing war on terrorism, that our government has systematically removed our liberties thus taking any freedom we may have had.

What freedoms are we fighting for?

Freedom to be fined if I chose not to get medical insurance?  Freedom for anyone to marry in this country? Freedom to use marijuana as a medicine?  Freedom to allow the person I love, whether it be male or female, to bequeath my estate to?  Freedom for my partner to be allowed to visit me on my deathbed?  Please tell me what freedoms are you fighting for?  There are other countries that have these freedoms.  So tell me, what are these soldiers fighting for?  Certainly not my freedom, since I do not have the same rights as a straight person.  So forgive me if I do not cry for your choice to raise arms in a stance to kill another human being.  If if were up to me, I would have never allowed these boys to be brainwashed into believing they are doing good.  There is no difference with the young islamic children being brainwashed into suicide bombings.

What is the difference?  One becomes a martyr, the other a hero.  Remember when the word 'Hero' meant something, and the Nobel Peace Prize was actually awarded to someone who had dedicated their life to World Peace.  Do you see the smoke and mirrors?  Are you looking past the veil?  Have I drawn the damn curtain for you?

What has all this have to do with the price of gas?

Because you folks sit in front of this box, on this Veterans Day,  and say woe to us.  Because you folks and millions other Americans are watching television right now, and are being told to mourn these fallen soldiers.  You are told that they are fighting for our freedom.

Less than three percent of you folks read books and a less percent of you read newspapers to understand that the media only portrays the truth.  You have become enslaved, and you do not even realize it because the only truth you know is what you get over your flatscreen plasma televisions.

Right now, there is a whole entire generation that has never known anything that did not come out of that flatscreen. The evening news has turned into the gospel! The ultimate revelation! This flatscreen can make or break presidents, popes, prime ministers. It is the most awesome goddamn force in the whole godless world.[Original Transcript - Network 1976]

Woe is us if it falls into the hands of the wrong people...like Keith Rupert Murdoch, He is a major shareholder, chairman and managing director of NEWS CORPORATION (News Corp). Rupert Murdoch is suggesting NEWS CORPORATION pull all it's news content out of Google and converts users to a paying basis.

Murdoch makes clear that it's all about getting serious about reining in the internet, and constructing a new empire on what news it will allow users to have access to. Therein may lay the calculation Murdoch and News Corp are doing in connection with their strategy to get consumers to pay for content and, then, deny access to all the non-paying transient onlookers who come courtesy of Google.

Seriously people, where does all of our news come from? It's in the hands of News Corporation. Check out who and what they own. [News Corporation Assets]

And when one of the wealthiest person controls the largest News Corporation -- the most awesome goddamn propaganda force in the whole godless world, who knows what shit will be peddled for truth on your flatscreen plasma televison and over the internet.

So you listen to me, television is not the truth. Television is a goddamned amusement park.

Television is a circus, a carnival, a travelling troupe of acrobats, storytellers, dancers, singers, jugglers, sideshow freaks, lion tamers and football players.  Television is in the boredom-killing business..[Original Transcript - Network 1976]

So folks, I leave you with words from a hero of my own....the world is like a ride at an amusement park, and when you choose to go on it, you think it's real, because that's how powerful our minds are. And the ride goes up and down and round and round and it has thrills and chills and it's very brightly colored and it's very loud. And it's fun, for a while.

Some people have been on the ride for a long time, and they begin to question: 'Is this real? Or is this just a ride?' And other people have remembered, and they come back to us and they say I remember where I came from and how I became a human, why I hung around, and now my final departure is scheduled. 'Hey! Don't worry, don't be afraid - ever - because... this is just a ride.' And we kill those people.

'Shut him up! We have a lot invested in this ride! Shut him up! Look at my furrows of worry; look at my big bank account, and my family. This has to be real.'

It's just a ride. But we always kill those good guys who try and tell us that - ever notice that? - and we let the demons run amok.[Bill Hicks]

So if you want the truth, you must seek it yourself.

But, man, you are never gonna get any truth from your flatscreen plasma LCD LED DLP Blue Ray television.

Television will tell you anything you wanna hear. Television will lie like hell and will tell you that CSI always gets the killer, and that nobody ever smokes crack cocaine in the Huxtables house. However much trouble the Heroes are in -- do not worry -- at the end of the hour they are going to win.

Television tells you any shit you want to hear. Television deals in illusions, man -- None of it is true.

But you people sit there, day after day, night after night, all ages, colors, creeds. The Television is all you know, and your begining to believe the Illusions their spreading. You are beginning to think that the television is reality and your lives are unreal.

You watch Real People, Big Brother, Survivor and think it's all real. You do whatever the television tells you. You watch Tyra, Oprah and Top Model, and begin to dress like the television.  You buy what Martha tells you to buy, because we all know....'It's a good thing.'  You eat like the television. You raise your children like the television. You think like the television.  This is mass madness,  you maniacs.

In God's name, you people are the real thing!  The Television is an Illusion!

So turn off your flatscreen plasma LCD LED DLP Blue Ray televisions. Turn them off now. Turn them off right now! Turn them off and leave them off. Turn them off right in the middle of this sentence you are reading now. Turn them off and sit there in silence and contemplate, ponder if you will.

Imagine there's no Heaven it's easy if you try. No hell below us, above us only sky. Imagine all the people living for today.

Imagine there's no countries, it isn't hard to do. Nothing to kill or die for and no religion too. Imagine all the people living life in peace.

You may say that I'm a dreamer but I'm not the only one. I hope someday you'll join us and the world will be as one.

Imagine no possessions I wonder if you can. No need for greed or hunger, a brotherhood of man. Imagine all the people sharing all the world.[Imagine - John Lennon]

Remember... it's just a ride, and we can change it any time we want. It's only a choice. No effort. No worry. No job. No savings and money. Just a choice, right now, between fear and love. The eyes of fear want you to put bigger locks on your door, buy guns, close yourself off.

The eyes of love, instead, see all of us as one.

Here's what we can do to change the world, right now, into a better ride. Take all that money we spend on weapons and defense each year and, instead, spend it feeding, clothing and educating the poor of the world, which it would do many times over - not one human being excluded - and we can explore space together, both inner and outer, forever. In peace.[Bill Hicks]
