Massive 8.8 Earthquake Hits Chile

An magnitude 8.8 earthquake struck central Chile early Saturday, the U.S. Geological Survey said.

CNN reports that an 8.8 earthquake struck at 06: 34 GMT, some 91 km Northeast of the Chilean city of Concepcion. A powerful earthquake with an initial magnitude of 8.8 on the Richter scale has struck central Chile, BBC reports Saturday citing the US Geological Survey (USGS). The US also issued a tsunami warning for Chile, Peru and Ecuador and later extended it to Colombia, Antarctica, Panama and Costa Rica while Japan's meteorological agency warned of a potential tsunami across large areas of the Pacific. The earthquake struck 35 km deep at 06: 34 GMT, some 91 km Northeast of the city of Concepcion and 317 km Southwest of the capital, Santiago.

Buildings in Santiago were reported to have shaken for between 10 and 30 seconds, with the loss of electricity and communications, however information on casualties is not yet available. A Reuters witness reported shaking buildings and loss of electricity in Santiago, which is north of the epicenter. BBC cite a university professor in Santiago saying that this was a massive quake but that the cities seemed to have resisted well. Internet communications were working but not mobile phones.

The quake's epicenter was located near the town of Concepcion, 212 miles (341 kilometers) from the capital, Santiago. A tsunami warning was issued for Chile and Peru, the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said.
"An earthquake of this size has the potential to generate a destructive tsunami that can strike coastlines near the epicenter within minutes and more distant coastlines within hours," the National Weather Service said in a statement.
Alessandro Perez, who is staying at the Santiago Marriott Hotel, reported shattered glass, but there was no structural damage. No one at the hotel was injured, he said. Anita Herrera, who works at the Hotel Kennedy in Santiago, said electricity was out at that hotel and guests were nervous.  "Our hotel is built for this," she said. "In Chile this happens many times."

Chile holds the record for the largest earthquake in the world, according to the USGS. A magnitude 9.5 quake struck the South American country in May 1960 and killed 1,655 people

The earthquake struck 90km northeast of Concepcion at a depth of 55km at 3.34am (7.43pm NZ Time). The quake was initially reported at a magnitude of 8.3, with very strong shaking lasted for 10 to 30 seconds.

A tsunami warning was issued early on Saturday for Chile and Peru and a tsunami watch was issued for Ecuador, the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center reported.

The centre said: "An earthquake of this size has the potential to generate a destructive tsunami that can strike coastlines near the epicenter within minutes and more distant coastlines within hours."

Ministry of Civil Defence & Emergency Management issued a statement, saying "based on current information, the initial assessment is that the earthquake is unlikely to have caused a tsunami that will pose a threat to New Zealand."

HAARPed Again?

The earthquake in Haiti caused by an experiment of the United States. Writes that the Venezuelan Ministry of Communications and Information.

The ministry is based on research by the Russian Northern Fleet, which the U.S. fleet movements in the Caribbean, where Haiti is located, would follow. The Russian investigation by the Venezuelan Ministry revealed that the U.S. Navy with one of his "earthquake weapons" has caused the quake.

The Ministry claims that the Americans since the end of their 70 years' earthquake weapons "have greatly improved. One of Iran is the next targets, says the Ministry of Communications and Information Venozolaanse.

As personnel representing hundreds of government and nongovernment agencies from around the world rush to the aid of earthquake-devastated Haiti, the Defense Information Systems Agency has launched a Web portal with multiple social networking tools to aid in coordinating their efforts.

On Monday, Jean Demay, DISA's technical manager for the agency's Transnational Information Sharing Cooperation project, happened to be at the headquarters of the U.S. Southern Command in Miami preparing for a test of the system in a scenario that involved providing relief to Haiti in the wake of a hurricane. After the earthquake hit on Tuesday, Demay said SOUTHCOM decided to go live with the system. On Wednesday, DISA opened up its All Partners Access Network, supported by the Transnational Information Sharing Cooperation project, to any organization supporting Haiti relief efforts.

The information sharing project, developed with backing from both SOUTHCOM and the Defense Department's European Command, has been in development for three years. It is designed to facilitate multilateral collaboration between federal and nongovernmental agencies.

Demay said that since DISA set up a Haiti Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief Community of Interest on APAN on Wednesday, almost 500 organizations and individuals have joined, including a range of Defense units and various nongovernmental organizations and relief groups.

APAN provides a series of collaboration tools, including geographical information systems, wikis, YouTube and MySpace-like pages and multilingual chat rooms.

Meanwhile, other organizations are tackling different technological challenges. Gianluca Bruni, the Dubai-based information technology chief for emergency preparedness and response for the World Food Programme, is setting up networks and systems to support United Nations and nongovernmental organizations in Haiti. WFP already has dispatched two communications kits to Haiti, with satellite systems that operate at 1 megabit per second and can support up to 100 users. It also has sent laptop computers, Wi-Fi access points and long-range point-to-point wireless systems to connect remote users to the satellite terminals. Bruni said eventually WFP plans to set up cyber cafés in Haiti for use all relief workers in the country.

Jon Anderson, a DISA spokesman, said the agency is supplying 10 megabits of satellite capacity to Navy, Marine and Air Force units engaged in the Haiti relief operation.

Many of the relief organizations and agencies in Haiti are bringing their own radio systems to the country. DISA has deployed a three-person team from its Joint Spectrum Management Element to help manage radio frequency spectrum.

Chile and Japan Earthquake Conspiracy
Chile and Japan have reported massive earthquakes at 8.8 and 6.9 Magnitudes, respectively in the last 24 hours.[source]

Chile and Japan are both home to huge observatories. We wonder again if science gone has gone mad -created an accident by intention or otherwise, if governments are manipulating political influence, or if it is the earth’s tectonics naturally shifting that have caused two incredible large earthquakes.

Chile is home to the Llano de Chajnantor Observatory including the Atacama Large Millimeter Array- ALMA. It is the largest and most sensitive instrument in the world at millimeter and submillimeter wavelengths. Other antennas there include:
CBI  microwave
ASTE  submillimeter
APEX  submillimeter
NANTEN2 millimeter-submillimeter
ACT microwave
QUIET microwave
TAO optical-infrared
ALMA millimeter-submillimeter
ALMA is an international partnership of Europe, North America and East Asia, and is the largest astronomical project in existence. ALMA is a fusion of ideas, with its roots in three astronomical projects: the Millimeter Array (MMA) of the United States, the Large Southern Array (LSA) of Europe, and the Large Millimeter Array (LMA) of Japan. according to WIKI.

Could any of these have the potential to create some sort of wave generation power to create an earthquake?

On the other side of the world is Japan’s National Astronomical Observatory Japan who issued this press release recently: Three antennas working in unison open new bright year for revolutionary observatory.

The Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) has passed a key milestone crucial for the high-quality images that will be the trademark of this revolutionary new tool for astronomy. Astronomers and engineers have, for the first time, successfully linked three of the observatory’s antennas at the 5000-meter elevation observing site in northern Chile. Having three antennas observing in unison provides the missing link to correct errors that arise when only two antennas are used, thus paving the way for precise images of the cool Universe at unprecedented resolution. [source]

While not expected to be completely operational until 2012, this January only weeks before the Haiti quake and now two huge quakes in Chile and Japan- three antennas have gone online. Are they sending and receiving waves?

From our friends in Tokyo, Japan is the induction magnetometer installed at the HAARP site in Alaska. It is designed to detect temporal variations of the geomagnetic field. The following illustrates the 36 hour time period surrounding the earthquakes.

Current geophysical data is available from more scientific instruments at HAARP . What motivations would a country have to aim a Tesla like earthquake weapon, if one exists at all?

The website “Not Another Conspiracy,” points out the political connection that Tokyo made an offer to construct five nuclear power plants for Tehran. Most of the world is against Iran having any sort of access to Uranium for any use. We point out that Japan is now the U.S.’s largest holder of Treasury debt. America bombs them and they own us. Humph.

Ionospheric absorption Feb 25-27, 2010

Last week, Chile’s former Labor and Social Security Minister demystifies the U.S.’s $100 trillion unfunded benefits problem. Since Pinera is the man who many years ago privatized Chile’s entitlement system, America, and the entire Western system, which for the past century has been relying on unfunded liabilities to provide benefits to the population in the hopes that funding day will never come, may do well to listen to what he has to say.
His message: "the American way of life, more so than anything else, in which reckless spending, living on credit and not saving for the future, is precisely why the US will be bankrupt very soon.
So this big hole is not only a problem in America, it’s exactly the same problem in Greece today, in Southern Europe, in France, in Germany. The west will go bankrupt unless you reform deeply the entitlement state. You are all prisoners of the Bismark unfunded entitlement system…"
Is this “big hole,” and yet another seismic catastrophe just the opportunity for a New World Order and loss of American sovereignty as some have suggested?

Alas, back to the quakes- there is no dispute that Japan sits above 4 tectonic plates. These are the North American, the Eurasian, the Philippine Sea Plate and the Pacific Plate, often referred to as the Niigata-Kobe Tectonic Zone(NKTZ).

And, from Nat Geo via, Chili’s earthquake occurred along the junction of the Nazca and South American tectonic plates, which are colliding off the coast of Chile at a rate of 80 millimeters per year….one of the most active tectonic zones in the world.

Long and short Chile, and Japan sit on active tectonic plates and both have considerable observatories to monitor whatever you can imagine, and perhaps create whatever you can imagine. What is not an imagination is that fact is that a tsunami alert went out hours before the first waves, described by Nat Geo as, “traveling at the speed of a passenger jetliner and were expected to hit Hawaii at 11:19 this morning, local time.”

ABC news added that,” The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center also issued a tsunami advisory for the coast of California and an Alaskan coastal area from Kodiak to Attu islands. /

Hawaii Tsunami Warning Cancelled

Pacific Warning Tsunami Warning cancelled according to Governor Lingle, channel 2 news from Hawaii as of 6:47 p.m EST. “No assessment of any damage of any county, which is quite remarkable,” said Lingle.

Chile Earthquake Facts

* In 1960, Chile was hit by the world's biggest earthquake in records dating back to 1900, US Geological Survey data shows. The 9.5-magnitude quake devastated the south-central coastal city of Valdivia, killing 1655 people and sending a tsunami that battered Easter Island, 3700km off Chile's Pacific seaboard, and continued as far as Hawaii, Japan and the Philippines.

* Chile's chain of about 2000 volcanoes is the world's second-largest after Indonesia, and is part of the Pacific "Ring of Fire" of seismic activity. Some 50 to 60 are on record as having erupted, and 500 are potentially active. The Chaiten volcano, 1200km south of Santiago in the Patagonia region, erupted in May 2008 for the first time in thousands of years, spewing a plume of ash visible from space.

* Chile is one of the longest countries in the world, stretching around 4300km from its northern desert border with Peru and Bolivia to South America's southern tip by Cape Horn, once a major world trade route.

* Chile is the world's biggest producer of copper, its main export. It produces about 34 percent of world output of the metal, which is used in electronics, cars and refrigerators. Most of the mines are in the north.

* Dictator Augusto Pinochet ruled Chile with an iron fist for 17 years from a 1973 coup until 1990. Pinochet died in 2006 without facing full trial on rights abuses during his rule, when more than 3000 people were killed or disappeared and an estimated 28,000 people were tortured.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center has issued a tsunami advisory for the State of Hawaii. An earthquake with a magnitude of 8.5 has occurred near Chile. It is unknown at this time if a tsunami has been generated.

The quake occurred offshore Maule, Chile at a depth of 36.9 miles, according to preliminary information. A far more serious tsunami warning is in effect for Chile and Peru. A tsunami watch is in effect for Ecuador.
