One of many comments I received from readers of a commentary I posted on Craiglist, under the /rant and raves section.

I had the unfortunate displeasure of coming across this section of Arizona's Craigslist, and  I made the mistake of reading some of the posts

The venomous hatred inbred into each posting made it difficult for me to stomach.

After visiting quite a few different cities /rants sections, I soon realized that this was a wide spread mentallity among the CL readership, and a direct reflection of most americans state of mind.

This guy helps validate my point:

"Try doing something productive and positive with your miserable lives for a change and we'll all be better off."

"I have to admit after checking out Craigslist Rant and Raves section for the Greater Bay Area I have come to this very sad conclusion. This chat room is full of the most sick , depraved , obscene , racist , unpatriotic , immature , immoral , criminal , mentally ill , elitist mother fuckers on God's green Earth."

"God Bless America and The First and Second Amendments."

A Sick Society

Just imagine how unconscious a person has to be of his or her actions, to torture or brutalize any living thing.

Think of the lack of compassion you must have towards life in general to be able to feel no semblance of sympathy towards entire populations, let alone just individuals.

Entire populations of a people who are no different than you or me. They are struggling in this life trying to attain shelter, maybe a vehicle, have children, get good paying jobs, feed themselves, clothe themselves. People who also get embarrassed, humiliated, intimidated...people who feel like you and I feel....no difference, other than the color of their skin.

But I'll tell you what's even more dangerous is not so much that people carrying out this cruelty, because that's already been established –that form of hatred and cruelty has already been established and is already known. What I'm really worried about is the people who are against humanity, the people who are not against cruelty and feel self righteous enough to think that it's justified to inflict harm or even wish harm on these people.

Those are the people who take unconscious cruel behavior to a whole new level of conscious cruel behavior that's perfectly acceptable in their minds, because they feel that it's their job to bring other people to justice.

Like they're an authority figure of some sort.

Those are the people who will have a much harder time figuring out why they harbor so much inner hatred and resentment. They don't seem to realize that it's just another form of the same exact hatred. So to keep from facing their inner demons.

When we begin to realize, "Hey wait a minute, maybe it's not alright to inflict harm on any other living thing", then the ego has to come up with more esoteric form of cruelty to trick us into displaying the same form of self-hatred, the same indignant attitude, but just in another way and towards another group of people.

But the emptiness will find a way back in and people will always start to feel restless again no matter how many times they transfer blame to yet another person or yet another group.

We need chaos in our lives, we crave destruction, we beg for catastrophe.

If we don't have these things to act as a form of exorcism or a catalyst for us, we start to notice these things in ourselves and that's what we don't want.

See, we can deal with wars, we can deal with terrorism, we can deal with stock market collapse and economic collapse, we can deal with these things. But once we start to notice this chaos within ourselves, that's what we're really afraid of. We'll take a million September 11's over one moment of true insight toward our self-hate,

We live in a sick society. Fundamentally.

We tell the world that the American way of life is superior to any other way of life yet our culture and society display before the world’s poor, a pervasive moral and ethical sickness that is both hypocritical and self-destructive.

In order to better understand how much of the rest of the world views us, let us look at ourselves through the eyes of another….a better “viewing area,” so to speak.

Here are just a few of the symptoms of our sick society.

Congress has voted to spend tax dollars to subsidize the tobacco industry.

The billion dollar tobacco companies promoting tobacco addiction.

Millions of Americans are hooked on this killer drug nicotine, as we witness mass human misery and suffering from people in the last throws of death from tobacco induced lung cancer and other diseases.

Watch as millions of dollars are spent in a losing battle against lung cancer.

This isn’t even the tip of the iceberg. I haven’t even began to discuss prescription drugs.

You see a society that claims to love children and promote their welfare above all else.

You stand by and watch as thousands of children are being sexually and psychologically abused by their elders.

Americans place millions of children locked away from the natural world in warehouses called ‘schools’.

You stand by and watch our children suffer terrible diseases and develop personality disorders from being denied access to natural light and fresh air.

Then you classify these children as “sick”, and you medicate them and turn them into junior junkies to control their attention deficits and hyperactivity.

Take note of the tens of thousands of children that are berated by their parents while playing sports, the millions of children left at home alone to fend for themselves, the millions of sickly obese children stuffed with nothing but junk food and the hundreds of thousands of children who have been locked up in jails, prisons, and reform schools for behaving no differently than the drug and alcohol addicted adults who locked them up.

You see hundreds of millions of dollars spent on pet food, pet grooming, wildlife programs on television, animal shelters, slick environmental publications, and zoos with ‘natural’ habitats.

But then you see millions of chickens, pigs, and cows abused and tortured to make junk food to sicken our children and pet food for the few animals in our sick society that are coddled and treated better than our children.

You would witness the horrors of rodeos, circuses, roadside zoos, and enslaved whales and porpoises. You would see bulldozers destroying the homes of millions of animals that would be forced into starvation or death as road-kill on our highways.

You would watch as hundreds of thousands of baby chicks and rabbits died at the hands of their captors during Easter.

The above represents just the tip of the iceberg of the hypocrisy that America represents to much of the rest of the world.

In the minds of the huddled and suffering masses of the Third World our sick society represents, land mines blowing off the legs of children, bombs being dropped on peasant’s mud huts, millions of acres of rainforests destroyed by American owned timber companies, denial of family planning information, and exploitation of both their people and their resources so that Americans can waste precious fossil fuels and other resources in order to drive bigger and more inefficient vehicles.

Our worship of money, power, waste, and cancerous growth is destroying both our credibility as a caring and generous people but is leading us down the pathway to destruction as a great nation.
