THE FILM:
This month we are making a film to help raise awareness and publicity re: the imminent badger cull taking place in the UK this summer on June 1st.
The film involves plenty of music, dance, costumes, lyrics, celebs and.....YOU!
People who are involved in the making of this film are:

WHAT WE NEED:
We are needing various clips of people doing 2 different actions:
1 - Unmasking your self from your own badger mask in silence & making an expression of your choice.
2 - Unmasking your self from your own badger mask & saying 'Get Off my Badger'.
Film your own clip on a smartphone or camera:
- Print out badger mask on this event page
- Cut out mask including the eye holes.
- Add string or elastic to it so you can fit mask to size, or simply just hold mask with one hand in front of your face.
- Using a smartphone or camera record a clip of yourself lifting the badger mask to reveal your face.
Get a friend to help if need be.
- For continuity, please make sure your camera is in the vertical position, framing yourself from just above the nipples (hehe), giving ample space above your head to lift the mask.
- You can make any expression you like....OR...say to the camera ~ 'Get Off My Badger'
- Email video clip as an MP4 to: artfulbadgeruk@gmail.com
- You have until May 5th 2013 to record and send this clip
- This clip will then be edited into the film.

BACKGROUND INFO:
On July 1st 2013, the government will be looking to cull 70% of the UK’s badger population in the hope of controlling bovine TB.
It has been proven by the government’s own chief scientist and top animal experts such as Sir David Attenborough, to be totally ineffective at controlling bTB in cattle and could actually make the condition worse!
Studies have shown that the badger cull is ineffective, hugely expensive, not backed up by any science and extremely cruel and as a result we feel it should not go ahead.

THE AIM
We’re making an original music video and song with a twist and we need your help.
We want to raise much needed awareness and publicity to help reverse the government's decision, to needlessly cull 70% of the badger population in the hope of controlling bovine TB in the cattle industry from June 2013.
We feel the best way to do this is to make a creative viral music video that will engage the public in a fun, exciting and informative way and make it super easy to spread the word. By doing this we hope to bring the attention back on the issue and force the government by public pressure to rethink their plan to utilise other more effective methods.
BADGER CULLING - THE ISSUE:
The government believes the most effective way to control Bovine TB is to cull (kill) the majority of the badger population who are one of many wildlife animals who catch this disease from infected cattle.
It has been proven by the governments' own chief scientist (who conducted a 10 yr study on this issue) and top animal experts such as Sir David Attenborough to be totally ineffective and could actually make the condition worse.
Key Points:
Does not work to control bovine TB: Basically if you were to kill every badger in the UK, 84% cattle would still get TB.
Not backed up by any science: every scientist who has studied this issue in depth, says culling badgers does not work in getting rid of bTB in cattle.
Hugely expensive: it's far more expensive then just vaccinating cows, badgers and utilising the other solutions.
Parliament voted against cull: in Oct 2102 a vote was made against cull 147 to 28. But the government has decided to still have it!
Public don't want it: 90% of the public don't want it.
Extremely cruel: killing wildlife senselessly is cruel, especially when it does not solve the problem in the first place
Effective Solutions:
Long Term:
Vaccinate Cattle: ask the government to make available the new cattle bTB vaccine to the farming industry.
Biosecurity: in cattle farms. Can be implemented easily and immediately.
Improve Animal Husbandry: in cattle farms. Can be implemented easily and immediately.
Short Term:
Vaccinate Badgers: vaccinate badgers in infected areas, (the vaccine is ready and already being used in Wales to much success).

THE MUSIC VIDEO: a short summary
Our music video will be a high calibre, sleek production with some amazing artists, performers, dancers, celebrities and most importantly YOU!
We don’t want to give too much away about the video at this stage, as we want there to be a strong element of surprise as to what happens and who exactly will be in the video.
This music video will be both rousing, serious, funny, thoughtful and beautiful....in questioning why the badger cull is going ahead, what the solutions to the problem are and what people can do to ‘BADGER’ the government to review their plan
~ All stamped with The Artful Badger signature of performance and style.
A special segment of the video will involve the general public’s involvement. For the last month or so people have been sending us their own film clips unmasking themselves with badger masks and saying
‘Get Off My Badger!!!’
