Evolutionary Enlightenment

The evolutionary process is going somewhere. And now, maybe for the first time in history, we can decide with more conscious awareness where it’s going. But our ability to do that depends entirely upon who we understand ourselves to be.

What part of our self are we identifying with?

Is it the personal psychological ego, or the conditioned habits and beliefs of our culturally created self-sense?

Or is it the deeper, more authentic self that we discover when we awaken to the impulse to evolve?

When we make the effort to identify more with the vertically moving energy of the impulse to evolve than with the horizontal pull of the personal ego and cultural self, everything changes.

We transcend the enormous weight of our own predetermined conditioning and open ourselves up to the liberating experience of that part of the cosmos that is trying to evolve through us in every moment.

We make ourselves available to that powerful telos, and when we do we become profoundly transformed.

In an inspired spiritual context where the evolution of consciousness and culture is the goal, coming together with others is not just about sharing an experience of peace, bliss, and harmony. It is about what I call creative friction. In fact, to me, the presence of ongoing creative friction is what indicates deep spiritual, psychological, and emotional health and vibrancy in this type of collective or intersubjective context.

Creative friction is the very spiritual lifeblood of the new culture that we need to create, through consciously engaging with each other and the life-process itself, as we strive to deconstruct and transcend old structures and creatively construct new ones.

If we all are committed to the same higher goal, there is room for many opinions and points of view—they are all colliding in a living, dynamic, creative context, in which everybody benefits from the friction.

To be true evolutionary partners and pioneers means being so completely in alignment at the level of our fundamental motive that we are free to disagree and debate in such a way that we are challenged, each and every one of us, at the deepest level, to evolve.

This takes guts and it takes heart; it means you always have to be willing to reach beyond the familiar, take risks, and continually let go.

But if you have become deeply aligned with the Evolutionary Impulse, you will not be afraid. You will experience creative friction as an ecstatic engagement with the essence of Life, of Love, of God, and of your own Authentic Self. [source]

When the evolutionary impulse is manifesting in our experience as either an inspired act of creative genius or as a surge of spiritually illuminated wisdom or insight, it temporarily becomes the self, the Authentic Self of the individual.

In those moments, we become animated by that same inspired energy and intelligence that initiated the creative process. This is when the ego is displaced by the presence of a higher consciousness and the self becomes illumined by that consciousness.

When this shift of identity occurs, the Authentic Self becomes the driver of the personality and the personal self takes a back seat.

In Evolutionary Enlightenment, first awakening to the evolutionary impulse and then striving wholeheartedly to become a living example of its expression, which is the Authentic Self, is both the path and the goal. [source]
